Airline Food: The good, the bad and the ugly

Yes. We basically flew up to cruising height, had lunch and started to descend.

Had a very eventful trip from Washington DC to Moscow, not a happy occasion, cancelled flight, re booked through London, taking Aeroflot from London to Moscow, over one hour to get from terminal 2 to terminal 4 in Heathrow, seat 39K on an empty plane.  A surprisingly good meal in the very back of the plane and a surprisingly nice flight attendants.  No smiles.  But they were kind.

Flew back to China from Vietnam with Sichuan Airlines today. It's a 2 hour flight. Left Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) at 2 pm.

 

Served this once we were at cruising height.

 

 

Again, not very pretty, but it was surprisingly tasty. Rice, greenery and a very tasty, well flavoured spicy lump of flaky fish.

 

 

Of course, being Sichuan Airlines, they had to pop on some chilli.

 

Bread roll with Anchor butter from NZ, yoghurt from Vietnam and a weird yellow custardy dessert which was lemon flavoured but about 2000 times too sweet for my taste.

 

Washed down.with a beer.

 

Not bad. Not great. Acceptable. Especially the fish.

Yes. I'm back in China, but won't be home until tomorrow evening, then can sort out the hundreds of photos I took. Not all food of course, but many are. Hopefully, by the weekend.

I'll have to read through this from the very beginning later, but a recent flight on *gag* United made me pleasantly surprised since that airline is known for costcutting as a way of life. It was an early morning flight from NOLA to SFO and we had a choice of hot breakfast sandwiches ... in economy, no less, along with the usual selection of fruit juices, coffee and tea.

 

Perhaps it's to compete with Delta which seems to have stepped up their food service game in recent years. I recall a flight from SFO to JFK last year where they literally showered us with food for the entire duration of the trip - from lunch to snacks which included ice cream bars and fruit. I can only imagine what the folks in business class and first class receive.

  United has done a lot to upgrade the service from SFO and EWR. 

  That said, I flew first/business/ whatever class it is that has the fully reclining seats from SFO to EWR a week and a half ago and will do the return trip in a few days. 

 

  The meals were ok. They did offer a lot of snacks.  You can kind of make out the menu from this picture. The bedding was nice— from Saks. They always serve a sundae as a dessert. That’s gotten old, IMO.

First time in United Polaris club at Newark airport.  Wow!  The menu looks amazing.  Food was delicious.  Wine list and drink menu will do a lot of restaurants proud.

I love the little paper airplane on the glass!  I would order one just for that.
