I haven't had the ones from Costco or TJ's (or the ones from Superstore, for that matter) but President's Choice would be readily available for pretty much anyone in Canada.

Do other Canadians remember Cuban Lunch chocolate bars? My brother and I used to like them now and then when I was really young. They were always good for sharing because they seemed so dense. Lots of chocolate and peanuts! 

 

I think they stopped making them some years ago but I found out they are now being made by a family in Camrose, Alberta and my husband found a couple at our local London Drugs. We shared one as a snack. 

 

Unfortunately, they aren't quite what I remember. The originals were more milk chocolate and this one is darker chocoate which I know will make them more appealing to some people, but not to me! 😒

I had completely forgotten about them until I saw your photos, but I remembered it immediately (I had a real sweet tooth as a kid).

Here in NB we have the Ganong Pal-o-Mine bar, which is chocolate fudge with peanuts. It's been around for over a century now, and they like to boast that it's one of the oldest candy bars to remain in continuous production (albeit with a pretty small distribution footprint).

Interesting - don't recall those but in the chunk o' chocolate line - beside the checkout in a lot of stores there were open boxes of Neilson milk chocolate or milk chocolate with peanut 'chunks' that were square with a corner cut off I recall.

This is the frozen mandoo / mandu (frozen dumpling) that I posted earlier. The brand is called "Yissine" even though it's not printed on the package. The ones I bought have vegetable filling. It does contain MSG, FYI. Imported by Rhee Brothers in Hanover, MD.

This was odd. I bought this 'hummus' online.

It claims to be made in Lebanon, but it's not really what I call hummus; it's more part of a hummus making kit. It contains a paste of chickpeas and tahini with some water (thanks, I have enough of that already), salt (ditto), acidity regulator (I'm right out of that) and citric acid (I have lots of that hidden inside lemons and oranges etc.)

 

The multilingual instructions (hummus needs instructions?) tell me to add olive oil and lemon juice. You know the ingredients for hummus. Before doing so, I tasted the paste straight from the can. It tasted hummus-like but had very little salt which was made up for it being very acidic (even before I added any lemon juice). Their regulator has been deregulated!

I added olive oil as instructed but skipped the lemon juice. I also regulated the saline requirement.

 

I then ate it with this so-called Arabic bread (also bought online).

The bread was good and the hummus wasn't terrible; it wasn't great. It wasn't hummus!

 

It didn't have the lemon taste I like with my hummus, but there was no way I was going to up the acid.

 

Still, it was pretty cheap. $2 (USD) for the 180g can inc. delivery. I won't be buying it again though.

I haven’t made them in years.   I stopped because I was the only partaker and a dozen was a lot for me.   I bought one at a local bakery and got a hockey puck lump.   I tried a year later but found they still employed the same baker...or recipe!

It's rare to find anything Indian here. China and India don't  get on. So I was delighted to find this online.

The brand name Gits may raise some eyebrows in the UK at least. 'Git' or 'get' is slang for a fool, an idiot. You may know it from the Beatles' song "I'm So Tired", written by  John Lennon. He uses the 'get' pronounciation, as used in Liverpool.

Picked these up in the local import store. An expensive impulse purchase. I only went in to price check something else before deciding whether the online deal I had seen was the better price I suspected it to be.

I was, of course, irritated to see this English company, based in Devon, succumbing to the Americanisation. If they are British, they aren't 'chips'! Grrr!

So here are the 'CRISPS'. They were covered in the promised sea salt and peppercorns giving them an odd appearance. The pepper was coarsely ground and tasted fresh - none of that dusty, stale pre-ground flavour that is so common.

However, although the salting was on point, there was far too much pepper. Now, I love pepper, but this was ridiculous. I'm sure many people would have recoiled in horror. Won't be buying them again!
