Another birthday, our household is Leo's den!     By request, white velvet cake with whipped cream and strawberries.

That looks lovely.I'm envious as in our extended family the majority of birthdays are between November and January. So much baking overload given Thanksgiving and Christmas and birthdays!

Made this for Savour School’s 20th birthday contest. They wanted you to choose anything from their classes that could be their birthday cake. This is a chocolate hazelnut cake, orange pastry cream, chocolate buttercream and caramel. All of my favorite flavors. The chocolate curls were a pain since it’s so hot and humid here today, but the chocolate finally set enough to work.

I am wildly envious of those curls.  I've tried every method I can find and haven't ever had any success at all.  They are just gorgeous!  Well done.

Hi Shai, could you please say what goes in this topping?

A basic frangipane - egg, almond flour, sugar, a bit of flour, almond extract. It feels like the top crust of a brownie (or at least those with a thicker crust), but almond falvored.

Thanks for that -I was gifted a little square of an almond pastry cream and pear sweet with that little crunch on top and could not remember the name. Such a welcome contrast. this one but with the topping - maybe they do not always bdomit that way.  https://www.littlefrenchbakeryla.com/instagram-media

@lemniscate - I love icebox cakes.  Lemon or key lime makes a great summer dessert, too.

Mr. Kim's birthday is Sunday and he's requested Apple Pie ala mode Parfaits for his dessert (weirdo).  One of the layers is  oatmeal cookies.  So yesterday I made a batch of the CI Thin & Crispy Oatmeal Cookies:

They are addictive.  I practically had to hide them away to stop everyone from eating the whole batch.  They are also so different from my big, chewy Oatmeal Raisinette cookies.  Proof to me that it makes no sense to insist that there is only one RIGHT WAY to do something.  People who insist that only chewy cookies are good or only crunchy cookies are good are missing out.  Like those folks who only support one kind of BBQ.

@Matthew.Taylor – those cookies look and sound great.

It was Mr. Kim’s birthday on Sunday.  Jessica made the dinner, but dessert was my responsibility.  He had requested Apple Pie ala mode Parfait.  It is layers of crumbled cookies, cooked and spiced apples, and ice cream.  I also drizzled on some caramel sauce.  The cookies are the ones that I posted on Friday:

Crumbled:

Apples – sauteed with lemon juice, sugar, and Penzey’s Cake Spice (cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, and cloves):

Ice cream drizzled with caramel:

Then another layer of everything and it’s done:

I should have set my ice cream out a little earlier so that I could spread it a bit and used a thinner taller glass to get a good parfait effect, but it was very good.

Tiramisu cake with a Cruella theme. For my cousin’s (la princesa 🙄) birthday tomorrow. Every time she comes down here, all she talks about is how much she loves that movie.

Well, it’s not the prettiest thing I’ve ever made, but dad’s coming home from rehab today (Covid related pneumonia, plus COPD leaving him in a hospital bed for a month!), and German chocolate cake is his favorite cake. Still, I think it looks good overall.
