Getting bored not being able to do much but at least I can bake.
Moe does all the heavy lifting, like putting the appliances on the counter and putting them away.

Small batch of donuts baked Thursday morning.
Just three cups of flour so used the KA to do the kneading.

I tried something for a first time, after a friend mentioned how "easy" the recipe is. It's easy (and a little annoying)...

But these buttermilk scones tasted great.

I love how recipes give the prep time...this one was maybe 15 minutes prep. Shit, it takes me 15 minutes to find the bowls and ingredients in the cabinets!

They could've gotten browner, had I left them in longer. Or maybe had I done some sort of wash with a little sugar? Or maybe not put the baking sheet on the steel, so the bottom would brown a little more slowly?

I always brush the tops with either melted butter or heavy cream and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Helps with browning and adds a nice crunch.

Devils Thumbprints from Baking with Dorie. I used TJ's 72% cacao dark chocolate.  The result is very rich but not terribly sweet.  I filled half with ruby chocolate and half with raspberry jam.

I cut 2 of them in half to show how dark and fudgy the cookies are.  Also because all the calories leak out of the cut edges so I could eat these pieces without guilt 🤣

@Ann_T – those donuts are wonderful looking.  I’m also madly in love with your coffee cup/bowl!

Looking for a little advice here.  When we were out at lunch on Saturday, we ordered a slice of their lemon chess pie to take home.  It was wonderful and just exactly the texture I would like in my lemon chess tarts.  I’ve added pictures of both and am hoping that someone will have help for me.  This is the texture of the purchased pie:

And this is the texture of my tarts:

I hope you can see the difference.  Mine is less smooth and collapsed, even though I filled the tart shell completely.   Thanks so much!

I wonder if those wouldn't be overly sweet if using reduced sugar jam?

Good question. The jam I used was the St. Darfour stuff that has no sugar added but it is sweetened with fruit juice. Overall, due to the dark chocolate I used, I did not find them too sweet and the jam was a welcome addition.
I'll look for something unsweetened to compare for next time.

A King cake w/ melty sugar? You made?

‘Deed I did. It’s filled with slightly sweetened cream cheese, baked, glazed with a mix of powdered sugar and cream, and then the colored sprinkles added.

Recipe makes two. I’ll generally make four a year. We’ll eat one and give the rest away.

Leftover baked sweet potato from dinner last night, didn’t have quite enough so I mixed in some applesauce. Vegan muffins (flax “egg” and almond milk used in mix). Very moist.

I would like to try that recipe, please.  They look like something I could eat for breakfast with some nuts added.
