I wanted to slip this little vessel into my purse but a) it was full of soy sauce and b)   it would’ve proved I have no class whatsoever. :)

Yes it probably is available in the GTA but I would likely never use it. Sometimes I can admire things without really, truly wanting them.

Today @Kerry Beal and I returned to Bento Box , a Japanese and Korean restaurant. It has had a complete makeover since we were last there and may have new owners.

Thai sticky rice is one of my favourites.  I bought one of those steaming baskets and cheap aluminum pots to set it in.  Using Pok Pok’s recipe for steaming....needs a few hours of soaking first.  I love the texture and not that great as a leftover.....tends to dry out.

Friday Lunch with my lady friend at Landry’s Seafood House on Seawall in Galveston

I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee expecting the same dish I have had in the past. This was a very pleasant surprise! Dirty rice instead of white rice and the addition of fried okra. Let me just say, this was my first time with okra. I did not know what these little fried bits were until later. They were delicious! I am now a fan of fried okra!

Lunch included a salad and garlic bread. My lady friend had the Ahi Tuna with a rice pilaf and veggies

Fried okra is indeed delicious. Boiled okra is too, though it can sometimes be a bit off-putting if you don't know what to expect. As Jerry Clower described it... "I ate so much boiled okra as a kid, my socks wouldn't stay up". To say it can sometimes be slimy when boiled would be an understatement. :D

I shared a lovely ladies lunch with friends yesterday.  We went to the Lakeside Restaurant located in the Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino.

After a bit of a slog in freeway traffic, we relaxed at an outdoor table where we could watch the ducks and geese paddle around on a pond that's fed by a natural spring. Kind of a little oasis in the busy San Fernando Valley.

Poor photos due in part to the dappled sunshine filtering through the trees and partly to my own ineptitude :D

I had the Short Rib Panini with a house salad.  Half of the panini was dinner.

IMG_1177.thumb.jpg.70d4bfe3b4857f46914030c77c0d660f.jpg

The lady to my left ordered the beet & pear salad with shrimp:

IMG_1179.thumb.jpg.3c1f0931be18d2d9dfd2108fa41f2971.jpg

The lady to my right ordered a steak burrito with fresh fruit:

IMG_1181.thumb.jpg.8640d7218ae8069fea782b8d7d0595cd.jpg

Not pictured was a vegetarian flatbread ordered by the lady across the table from me because this lady draws the line at getting up and walking around the table to take pictures of other people's food xD.

A good time was had by all.

Last Saturday we took the day and drove up Rt. 1 to Fredericksburg, stopping at all the little junk/antique places along the way.  Lunch in Ashland at a wonderful new discovery – the Southern Soul Café.  Mr. Kim’s plate:
