Yard Sale, Thrift Store, Junk Heap Shopping (Part 3)

I found this thick aluminum skillet the like of which I have never seen.  No markings on it.  The handle is made of wood.  The surface is very smooth.  It fried eggs beautifully.  May someone on eGullet can tell me about it?  @andiesenji?  It cost 2 dollars, so I was willing to accept a potential disappointment.

Looks like ""The Original French Chef Omelette Pan", or a knock-off. If the former it will have that info on the base.

Heavy aluminum, wood handle, end of the handle has a metal hanger that'll leave scars if you happen to touch it after it's been on the burner for some time. Ask me how I know. I found one at a Habitat ReStore a few years ago for about the same price you paid. Used it a couple of times, found I prefer carbon over aluminum.

Still available I think: https://www.potshopofboston.com/collections/omelette

eBay always has some listed at wildly varying prices.

Or, I could be wrong.

Quick edit: Julia kind of dissing this style. Seems at one point she had a falling out with the manufacturer.

I know, I know I’m trying to sneak a non-food item in here. But how could I not share this little motorbike with its Timex clock with you?  @Kerry Beal  spotted both the plate and the motorbike in a thrift store today before our lunch.  The bike will be a gift for my number two son.  The plate will appear elsewhere with food on it. (I am getting closer and closer to @liuzhou‘s teardrop plate which I have already confessed to coveting.)

My neighborhood has an annual garage sale weekend with hundreds of sales.  You can have one of your own any time, but this one is mapped and draws people from all over.  https://westseattleblog.com/wsgaragesaledaymap

I strolled around the neighborhood for a while and this is what I came home with:

A colander for 25 cents and a bag of cookie cutters for $1

That pot was a real score!

Indeed!  It just fits inside a 24 qt pot I already had so I’m thinking 20 qt. Can make lots of either caramel sauce or ice cream!

So, I got this weird thinger some time ago at a thrift shop here in Ambato; they had a massive box of them. It was 50¢ which I figured was a good deal.

I know it's a plunger whisk; up until recently, though, I hadn't found a good use for it - it's insanely labour intensive to use it to foam milk or make meringue... However! It's now the only tool I'd ever consider using to muddle key lime or mora creme pie fillings.

My English stepsisters swear by these for mixing Yorkshire pudding batter.  I've never been able to use one without flinging stuff all over the kitchen.  😊

Flour is one of my favorites. Everything I've made from it works, AS LONG AS I use a scale to measure.

At a country estate sale, idly picked up one of these books and was advised,  "All books are free today."   Well, I need another cookbook like a....

But you can't be insulting!    ;)

And Heartland takes us into MidWest villages, fairs, events, yearly rituals and all of the associated foods.   A tremendously interesting read about places we've probably flown over or driven past.    What we missed!!!

It was originally published in 1973 (you can tell by the recipes) this was a 2005 reissue.

One night we had a social night in this building I live in and people brought various nibbles and wine.  One person brought cheese cookies that were so good I had to force myself to stop eating them so as to leave some for others.  I tried several different recipes but none matched those.  They were cheesy, buttery nibbles.  We have had a couple of those nights since but the cheese biscuits never did make another appearance.

I think I found that recipe online, though with a slightly different title:  "Nancy Drew Missing Map Cheese Wafers" (click)  Then click on "Click here to see full recipe".

This is so funny.  My habit is to look through all new cookbooks and cooking magazines and write down recipes I'm interested in trying (otherwise I'd never find them again).  I only found 4 I was interested in trying in this book.  Look at what the last one was:
