Today US kindle has travel books deal which includes several international cookbooks.

also Christopher Kostow A New Napa Cuisine and Gabriel Rucker Le Pigeon cookbooks are 1.99.

I think that it is a great opportunity to add to Kindle collection.

Indeed.

I bought two books by Jeff Koehler:  Morocco, which I've read before, and Spain, which looks interesting.

Very nice!  Overkill for someone in my situation  but that does not mean I am not envious.:o

My envy is a little less!   Did some sorting of long forgotten corners in my basement and uncovered this. It is petite -- only 14 cm rim to rim but as you can see I have made use of it already.  I will spend some time seasoning it because such a small pan can be amazingly useful when there is just one of you!  There is no indication of the maker anywhere on it.

When I was in culinary school, we made Persian-style rice pudding in international lab. It was scented with rose water, of course.

One of my classmates unthinkingly blurted, "It's like eating my grandmother," and did not hear the end of it until the semester was over.

So aside from  my other sins this year (which I am certain Santa is keeping careful track of) I succumbed to Le Pigeon cookbook knowing full well that it was not my kind of book.  I bought it for that very reason -- to try and shake up my reading just a little. Thank you @chefmd.   The book is interesting, funny, challenging.   I am still at the beginning but many of the recipes are very approachable contrary to my expectations. I am reminded of the same level of pleasure that I had reading Gabriel Hamilton's Prune. They are very different books and very different approaches to ingredients but they are ringing my bells in the same way.  Now I wish I had been gooder all year long so I could ask Santa for some of the unique ingredients called for in Le Pigeon. xD

Dalton-Ruhlman flash sale -- 45% off with discount code "Santa." I should have waited... Black Friday/CyberMonday continues to disappoint.

I don't see mention of this sale on their site.  If you know, how long is the "Santa" code good for.

I saw it on the Dalton Ruhlman Facebook page. The code is good for a "one day flash sale," so I assume it's good for today only.

I'm contemplating ordering another set of the mix-sized offset spoons... but the shipping is holding me back. It's not bad if you put in a large order and spread the fixed-costs over everything.

As @Anna N might say, I caved.

The discount worked.  I ordered the spoon set and a pair of bamboo scrubbers.

That's the price I get in my smile.amazon.com link (benefiting eGullet).

I get the same price (click) when I go to the regular amazon, com web site.

Odd that you don't get the same price as I do...

edited to clarify and to add: Maybe I'm getting that price as a "thank you" from Amazon for the amount of money I've spent there buying Christmas presents this season. xD

Thank goodness for the Prime Member benefit for free 2-day shipping on most items. Made the membership price completely worth it.

I was signed in to Amazon and I am a Amazon Prime member, so correct on both counts.

My apologies to you and other eG members.

Honestly no apology is needed for my sake for sure. I was just confused as to why I couldn't get the same result you were getting.   And I was becoming totally obsessive about it.
