Just to be clear, do you transfer to the stone while the stone is in the CSO?

Yes and I preheated the oven with the stone in it just like I would if I was baking in the big oven.

It was easy to slide the round off the transfer board on to the stone.

Now I am that much poorer...plus a pair of silicone gloves.

I wonder though what hours of steam bake will do to the cast iron?

My well-seasoned cast iron skillet has been through many hours of steam-bake.  I haven't observed any ill effects.

I don't need a cast iron comal OR a 10.5" cast iron baking pan that would fit in my CSO if I had one.  I don't need either, but I sure am tempted to buy one or both.

On a related note: if you look at the cast iron comal on Amazon, you'll see that it's filed under Department: "unisex-adult". O.o

And I was lucky enough to be gifted a 10“ x 10“ kiln shelf!   Thank you @Kerry Beal!

OOOH I just ordered a  stone that is 10" X 7"  for my CSO.   And even better it  was available on ebay from a Canadian company.

Kitchen Supply Old Stone Oven Toaster Oven Pizza Stone, 7-Inch by 10-Inch

Looks like the same one - Old Stone Oven - might be available on Amazon US, currently with a coupon that lowers the price to $12.32 or so.

Also, an Aroma Bakeware stone looks similar, at $17.99.

And this one, from Baking Stone. $16.99

They get slightly mixed reviews, but the people that like them REALLY seem to like them a lot.

Anyone have any thoughts on which one is a better choice?

My Lodge 10.5 inch was promised by amazon today.  They lied.  I called and, as one might say, lodged a vigorous complaint.

But on the plus side, the friend whom I aggressively enabled received her CSO.  It is a Canadian model and she hopes it can speak Fahrenheit.

We still bake and roast In Fahrenheit here in the frozen north where the temperature right now is minus 2°C.

Amazon and UPS surprised me.  When I awoke there was this:

Lodge12022017

My whole mood changed after the upset of not receiving delivery last night.  And now, if you will excuse me, I am off to the kitchen for some fun.

I'm jealous.  I don't think mine will be here before next Friday.

The Lodge is almost exactly the same size as the bottom section of the Cuisinart chicken steamer that I had been using.  But the sides of the Lodge are steeper, resulting in more baking area.  Needless to say the Lodge is also heavier than the aluminum sandwiched bottom, stainless steel Cuisinart.

I have the Lodge with a layer of seasoning in the CSO at the moment while my dough is rising.

Went ahead and joined the party. I can always use another piece of Lodge. It's an annual stop for me when I make my every-summer trek to the N. GA mountains.

So, about those chicken thighs: I lined the pan with foil, put some onion halves, small potatoes, and peeled carrots in the bottom, and the thighs seasoned with Penzey's Greek seasoning on top of those. They steam baked for about 40 minutes at 425. The first two, and some of the vegetables, were delicious the first night, and the skin was wonderfully crispy. What was left (including the exuded juices) got packaged and refrigerated. For the next night's dinner, I took a smaller pan, lined it with foil, put in the two leftover thighs, scraped off the layer of fat, and added the remaining veg and juices, and reheated on steam bake at 300 for 20 minutes. Almost as good as the first day, except that no carrots were left for day 2.

I'd do that again!

It has always seemed to me that this is where the Cuisinart Steam Oven (CSO) shines.
