This Crofton brand measuring cup is from Aldi. The lines are in the right place as verified by water and a scale but note the labels on the lines!

Imagine a kid growing up with that, then getting their own measuring cup and finding out it wasn’t like mom’s/dad’s.

does Aldi carry Campari tomatoes ?

my two sources , TJ's , MarketBasket

seem to be at the end of a ' cycle ' of growth

still the best tomato in the supermarket

but not at its peak at the above.

I can't recall ever seeing Campari tomatoes at Aldi but may be wrong. Things come and go there. They used to have large packages of them at Costco and Sam's, but not sure I've noticed them there lately either.

I tried a bag of these little lemon cookie thins from Aldi and enjoyed them.  Picked up another bag and added the key lime and coconut versions today.  They also have a chocolate chip version.

Thin and crisp.  Nice flavor, not too sweet.  $2.45 for a bag of ~ 24 cookies.

The ingredients are all pronounceable:

  • 4 weeks later...

decided it was time for a trip to Aldi.

its 8 minutes away.

I was thinking of broadening my supply lines.

they are currently MarketBasket ( Sat. or Sun.  6:30 AM )

and Tj's  tuesday # 9:00 AM

far less people at either Emporium @ those times.

also , an Economic question arose

on the ' Cost of Food '  thread :  Mayonnaise.

indeed :

IMG_1487.jpg.e2c01a6fb808561e483497dad184da56.jpg

the same total  price as Hellman's @ MarketBasket

but , Whoa Chuckwagon !  Aldi threw a curve :

IMG_1480.thumb.jpg.533da06f76ec8c6e1450337579b1695e.jpg

here are the Two Burman's

IMG_1476.jpg.7de42964568f8359e8aa160e40dda239.jpg

Mayo and Whip.  N.B. : Miracle ( sic ) Whip.

what might @weinoo do ?

since he is not right in front of this display , who can say ?

IMG_1484.thumb.jpg.8b76701b5c6166137d964ab852998836.jpg

the chocolate display .

N.B.:  Eagle Eye'd Economists might question my Analysis

just to the R of these are the bars that are $ 2.25

they didn't have the dark chocolate w orange bits this time

so I tried two of the 2.25 , pictured earlier.

the store had one other customer , has wide isles , and no waiting.

I might go more often .

I did find a Fz bag of ravioli :  Chicken and Parm

looking forward to trying it.

and the Family Sized  Tortellini :  chicken and Proscuit

is now Chicken and Herbs   .  got a pack to try.

I've used the Aldi mayo for a long time and like it and its price.

The Priano pastas are good, although haven't picked up any lately.

Aldi chocolates are tasty and cheaper than most.

Will head to Aldi later in the week.

From the sound of Covid news reports, the new variants are highly contagious and are sending even vaccinated people to the hospital more than in the recent past.  So...also looking for stores that open early and have few shoppers then.

in my area

Tues 9 AM  ( when they open )

seems acceptable to me.

they don't have

ShadyBrookFarms  ground turkey

Heinz mushroom gravy

nor the refrigerated mashed potatoes

Reser's Main St Bistro

https://mainstbistro.com/product/signature-mashed-potatoes/

no margarine !

their vac'd ' deli ' meats are a little weak.

He might order Duke's from Fresh Direct or even Amazon!

The opportunity cost alone would make the Burman's way more expensive...my cost would go up $.04 - $.05 per sandwich, and that is unacceptable!

Ive never had Dukes.  almost ordered it from Amz

years ago . but did not .  Amz was no offering ' free ' chocolate '

but Aldi seems to .

There is no such thing as a free lunch, @rotuts.

The closest Aldi to me is over (or under) the Hudson River. The next closest one is in Brooklyn, somewhere on Flatbush Ave. Either would take hours to get to and from from. And do you know how much the toll is coming back into Manhattan from New Jersey?  Since I have an EZ Pass, it's "only" $12, off-peak. With $12, @JoNorvelleWalker could buy enough mayo to last her a month!

living the High Life !

lunch is never free

but the chocolate @ Aldi

might be

if you are there or other reasons

( supply costs thus covered )

and

you can use one more jar of Burhmans

Free is never easy.

in thinking about it

my ( very close ) Aldi has very little that interests me.

too bad .  Tues 9 AM it was more or less empty.

I looked over their produce , thinking I might get a 5 lbs bag of

red bliss potatoes .

these were the worxt looking potatoes Ive seen in a very long time

some sort of spotted ' rust '  al over them  can't imagine anyone buying them

and the rest of the produce looked tired and glum.

dairy was weak :  no quart containers  of non-fat yogurt , unbranded.  eggs :

same price as MarletBasket   and the pre-cut ' deli ' meats

were unremarkable , as was the packaged cheese.

mixture of Aldi's brand and commercial brands made no sense to me

they did have the usual Aldi branded salad dressings

I use those w Kalatama olive oil for a quick dressing.

mustards in squeeze containers are nice, for sandwiches and 'Dogs '

no 9 " refrigerated pizzas ( deep dish ) which fit in the CSO.

its going to take me quite some time to finish the Burmans mayo

so I can go back and get two more free chocolate bars.

I'm lucky enough to have both an Aldi and a Lidl within a mile of each other near me.  What one doesn't have, the other one often will.  Lidl has a very nice bakery (baked from frozen, I'm sure, but good) where you can choose individual rolls/loaves/pastries.  I don't buy commercial sliced bread from Lidl anymore since I had 3 loaves in a row mold after a couple of days.  If I only had Aldi, I'm sure I would not be as satisfied.

I receive Aldi ad circulars in the mail.  But wherever the Aldi actually is I'm pretty sure I cannot get there.  And I'm not entirely sure I'd want to.  They don't even mention their location.

Do you receive circulars from other grocery stores that indicate their locations?
I got ads from 7 different grocery chains in this week’s pile. Not a one mentioned their location. Perhaps a conspiracy….

I'm not sure.  The only one I checked was Aldi.

It makes sense. The circulars are prrobably printed centrally for all its branches. The cost of printing over 2,000 separate circulars, one for each different location would be prohibitive.

it can be done, you're not going to be printing a different list for each recipient, but only for a metro area or a region.  It's almost certainly not worth the effort, people who read advertising fliers are probably already your customer and know where you are, or are motivated to find you.  the ones I've looked at (none terribly recently) have had web stie links for store locators, too, which is easy enough.

Oh, and sea salt caramel chocolate covered almonds. Aka crack. I would seriously buy those things from a street corner dealer if it was the only way I could get them.

I read over this thread the other day and remembered this 5 year old comment from @kayb when I saw these almonds in the store. Oh my, they are awfully addictive. I need to hide them.

Easiest way is to dedicate 1/2 page or 1/4 page to store locations - I've seen many flyers use that approach

p

How do you get over 2000 locations into ½ a page?

They are advertising to people who, in the majority, know  the location or can easily find out. Products are what they are selling. Not directions.
