Food recalls

Another one that's mostly aimed at the back of the house, as it were. Various bulk dry-goods from a specific wholesaler are being recalled for salmonella (due to rodent infestation, yet!). The wholesaler seems to primarily serve the African diaspora, so that would be your only real way to guess where the products had been used/resold. The products were sold from Ontario to BC, but may have ended up in the other provinces as well.

I don't know if anyone here buys the Evive brand of frozen smoothie fixin's, but their "Immunity Super Functional Smoothie" is being recalled for the presence of raw elderberries, which are (duh) toxic due to their cyanide content.

Probably not a huge risk for anyone who hangs out here, but two nationally-distributed brands of prepared sandwiches, burgers and donairs sold at convenience stores, gas stations etc have been recalled for listeria contamination.

Not of direct concern to most of us here, I think, but several varieties of Similac infant formula are being recalled for bacterial contamination (salmonella and cronobacter).

I'm stunned.  The government download has 10 pages of affected products.  What on earth were they doing?

Out west — 28k pounds of ground beef recalled. Link

The EST number on that load is EST. 965.  And today, Consumer Reports noted another load of ground beef and hamburgers, also potentially E. Coli infected, with the EST of 46841.

My question is: is American ground beef imported into Canada?  And would we be informed if potentially contaminated beef came into this country?

Canada does import some US beef but I don't know how much, if any, is already ground at the time of import.  Hopefully, someone more knowledgable can jump in to help you out.  To your second question, US and Canadian agencies work very closely together so I would expect that information to be shared.  I can find reports of Canadian ground beef recalls due to possible E. coli contamination that extended to product imported to the US and it was reported in both countries so I would assume the same would be true for a US recall.

Thanks for this; a newly purchased jar was from the affected lots -- it went straight into the trash...

I must have deleted a dozen plus FDA e-mails about all the products made with the recalled Jiff PB. And seems to be global now.

FoodSafetyNews.  From bakeries to in-house grocery made fudge, etc. Not all recalls are Jiff made confections.

I've not purchased peanut butter in years but recently bought a small jar from Misfits for pup medications. (almond butter is too messy being oily). Misfits contacted me and it is not recalled. It is the 'natural' PB. Must have emulsifiers since it does not have the oil separation.

Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analysis shows that samples from sick people in this investigation are closely related genetically to a sample collected in 2010 from the environment at J.M. Smucker Company’s facility in Lexington, KY, where some Jif brand peanut butter is produced.  We have sent a Freedom of Information Act request to the FDA for the release of all inspection reports of this plant from 2010 to the present.
