Fine Cooking Aug/Sept issue : Its New to me

My Fine Cooking Aug/Sept issue arrived just now.

these are a few things I noticed, and they might only interest me :

1 ) this is the last print magazine I get and I enjoy it.  Ive gotten Tauton Press Mags. for some time, and have found them to be of high

quality.

2 ) Ive especially enjoyed in the past their Rx's that feature a basic technique of a classic recipe then a mix & match section that gives you

ideas on how to modify the basic Rx with groups of items nicely pictured and described.   i.e. Pick 2 form group A, one from B etc. This feature is much rarer

now than before, a bit of a loss I think .

Leafing through the magazine I noticed two ' fold outs ' and gave them a closer look: Fold-Out # 1 ( pp 19 ) was an ad for AllClad

( NB  " advertisement " at the top  of that page ) but the theme was continued as you 'folded-out'  ( maybe that's why its called Food-pOrn after all )

and there were Rx's from Fine Cooking in the fold out section.

I of course started to get Haute thinking this was a bit of a bait and switch, but cooled off a bit until I noticed the second fold out:

from Chobani, the Yogurt Folks.  Again it did say 'advertisement' at the top of the fold out.  Some Rx's came from Chobani, and the inner

ones from Fine Cooking.  Probably. Not quite so Haute this time.

Then I thought about it some more :  and didn't really mind, as on close inspection, they referenced the origin of all the Rx's. They did

use Chobani yogurt in their Rx's, etc

Then I though this was fairly brilliant, as it gave them a new income stream, and might keep a Fine publication like this affordable

and alive for a bit longer. After all, WSJ and other economic thought seem to think that ad dollars are migrating to SocialMedia

(which might be an Oxymoron ) . So Why Not this type of newer revenue stream ?  At least someone is thinking creatively.  Fortunately no adds for

Marlboro Cigs for that

"tobacco' taste as far as I can see.

Any way, I found it interesting, creative, and fairly documented if you gave it a close inspection.

not so much like Coca-Cola in movies at the MultiPlex, or on your Favorite Soap.

Ill be the first one to admit this probably only interests me. Its probably been going on for some time.

While on the subject :  you can DL a free e-book at

http://a.pgtb.me/430Rzv  and if you fill in the bottom, you are (UN) likely to win something

thats on GrassFed Beef. Aussie Beef.

One final note :

When you fire up the BarBee for the 4th and feel a bit empty and Antique-ish  there is always

the Saber Edge.  Its Up to Date, and has WiFI or BlueTeeth and not only is there an App for That

you can follow your 'Cue and get Sync'd on all of your Mobile Devices.  They don't say if they offer 128-K

encryption so count on the Neighbors to show up invited or not.

Have a happy and safe 4th !

are the Rx's in the booklet all from Chobani or are they 'co-branded' with F&W's people ?

the co-branding is new to me.

hope it helps them survive in print !
