Provincetown, the "Outer Cape," and Wellfleet Too

Absolutely beautiful. The food AND the view. I was planning to be back in Boston this fall and was going to make a trip out on the Cape, but life intervened and it's not going to happen. Sigh. Maybe next year.

Don't ask. Eat it.

It's beautiful, and makes me envy your trips anew!  The Cod Reuben brought me up short, though. How was it?  Did the cod stand up to the other parts of that sandwich?

It was very tasty,  Cod is such a mild fish.  I don't normally enjoy cheese with fish, but in this case, it was acceptable.

I have not looked at my Oysterfest photos yet, but here are some from a takeout dinner on Friday night.  Marconi Station BBQ in Wellfleet.  My brother has been trying to get us to go here for years, but we always want fish.  He took advantage of the fact that my husband and I were the last people out to Wellfleet and got takeout for dinner.  It was late and I was appreciative.

There were sides of mac and cheese, slaw, cornbread, and baked beans.  I only had a piece of fried chicken.  It was very different than the fried chicken I am used to, with a thicker coating.  It actually reminded me of this broasted chicken that a local to me grocery sells (Roche Brothers). I prefer my family's recipe, which is marinated in buttermilk and hot sauce and then lightly coated with seasoned flour before frying.

Sorry about the delay on the final installment.  We had a power outage that led to some connectivity issues until my husband had time to restore our network.  Oysterfest day one was a bit of a bust.  It rained really hard, and it was also incredibly crowded.  We could not even get near some of the food tents.  We did manage a few things.

It all looks good, but the hamachi aguachile and raw oysters especially caught my eye. I do love good, fresh oysters on the half shell - and that's something that doesn't travel well. I had to look up hamachi aguagchile. That looks like a great dish to try making!

Oh, and those desserts....:x

BTW, do you weigh 9,000 pounds? I would. But Gawdamighty, those are gorgeous meals.

Hahaha nope.  I am a normal weight for my height and age.  In an ideal world I would weigh what I did when I got married, but nobody's perfect.  Perhaps I should have specified that it's not just me and my husband eating, our group has included up to seven people or as few as three, depending on the day.  I typically eat 1/3 to 1/2 of my meal and then bring the rest home for someone to eat later--usually my husband or his brother.  We also only eat one full meal a day while on vacation.

Last night though, it was just me with my husband at Ceraldi. This is a very special restaurant for us.  When you make your reservation they ask if you have any dietary preferences or allergies, and then the chef cooks the same meal for everyone in the restaurant, with modifications to accommodate everyone's preferences.  I always ask for a pescatarian meal.  I'm not strictly pescatarian but there's a lot of meats that I dislike.  My husband has no restrictions. The meal is seven courses with optional wine, reserve wine,  or soft beverage pairing.  My husband and I did the reserve wine pairing since we were celebrating.  They start everyone with a half glass of rose champagne while the chef explains the menu for the evening

I was struggling with fullness by the time we got to the risotto course and could only manage a bite of the dessert, but we took the rest of it home and my husband ate some for breakfast this morning haha!  Everything was delicious.  The oyster, the barolo pasta, and the salt fish fritters were my favorites of the seven courses.  I hope to be able to go back for our 22nd anniversary next year :-)

Just marvelous! I like the subs as well. I thought the kohlrabi WAS scallops, sliced in half horizontally, which intrigued me.

Congratulations on your anniversary, and I, too, hope you celebrate No. 22 there next year!

More time out in Wellfleet.  We are not out there on the 4th of July for the fist time in many years and I am grumpy about it.  Here's a couple of recent meals.  The Bookstore at Wellfleet harbor.  Drinks

The Beachcomber, for the last time ever.  The town doubled the parking fee from $20 to $40, and since there are seven of us we had to take two cars.  $80 before ever stepping inside the restaurant!  Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Here's the dune you have to climb up to get back to the parking lot.  That's my niece and nephew heading up, and my brother skulking at the top 🙂

Chicken poutine. This was mine.  I've never had poutine before and don't think I'd order it again.  I did not like the gravy on the fries. Too mushy.

My nephew ordered the Impossible Burger.  I asked to try it since I have not eaten red meat for over 30 years and  this burger supposedly tastes like red meat.  It was...weird.  It did not taste like red meat but it has a definite meaty flavor to it.  It's also very salty.

What a shame that the parking is so prohibitively expensive near The Beachcomber! Is there a chance there of using a taxi service of some sort? It sounds as though the city is trying to discourage individual transportation.

The city is trying to keep everyone from coming (and returning).  Now that I know what the tax is, I'll never go there. Sorry Beachcomber. I know it isn't your fault, but you are getting punished anyway.
