Anybody eating "cock" eggs?

Recommended Posts

I can't speak to the OED but I just checked the California DFG website and the bird identification illustrations still refer to drakes and hens.

It's the same in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Like you, I have come to think of 'hen' as the female of any bird species because of the distinctions made in hunting regulations and other wildlife management documents that I've read.  It's clear from this topic that the word's interpretation depends (at least in part) on linguistic experience, context and perhaps region.  By "linguistic experience" I just mean the general use to which one's been exposed.

Who knew such a simple word could cause so much debate?  :raz:

I tend to prefer cock eggs.  They have a stronger taste, harder shell, exceptional ability to bind cakes and cookies, and are generally superior in every way to the thin, overly feminine and emotional hen eggs.

I like to bake nice things. And then I eat them. Then I can bake some more.

I'd forgotten about this somewhat silly topic, but would just like to introduce you to what is known in Chinese as 公鸡蛋 (gōng jī dàn) which means male chicken (rooster or cock) eggs.

They are in fact rooster testicles. And very tasty!
