"Take Me Out to the Ballgame"  ("...buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks....")

"Oh I Wish I Were An Oscar Mayer Weiner"  (ok, that one's a stretch, since it's technically an ad, but still....iconic to those of us of a *certain* age in the US)

"Saturday Night Fish Fry" Louis Jordon

"(I Found My Thrill On) Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino

I'm stopping now, but rest assured, I'll be tossing and turning all night coming up with more !

The Java Jive song is called ... wait for it ... the Java Jive (and I believe is Prohibition era so not about coffee at all).

I'm intrigued by this gopher guts business. My education has clearly been lacking.

Penn Jillette - Great Green Gobs

This is practically a classic American folk song, I recall it from my childhood in the 60s. It's also used as the theme song to 'Bizarre Foods America'.

We knew it as....

"Great green globs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,

Mutilated monkey meat.

Dirty little birdie feet.

Great green globs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,

And me without my spoon."

The correct wording is "marmalade and monkey meat, mixed with dirty birdie feet" and it ends with "floating in contaminated milk"

Could we please stick to songs which are actually about food, as requested in the opening post, otherwise we are going to have all sorts of silliness here.

Nillson's "Coconut" is about a drink and I thought we were avoiding drinks. There are too many drinking songs.

Whatever "Strawberry Fields" is about, it certainly isn't food.

I specifically mentioned "A Taste of Honey" in the opening post (although I used the Beatles version) as an example of a song where the use of food is purely metaphorical. It isn't about honey. "A Spoonful of Sugar" isn't about sugar, either. Nor is "Blueberry Hill" about blueberries. "Saturday Night Fish Fry" isn't really about fish. And no one knows what "Salted Peanuts " is about.

Many of the tracks cited aren't even songs. "Green Onions" is an instrumental, as are ""Popcorn"  and "Watermelon Man". I can't see how it can be claimed they are about food.

Coconut by Widespread Panic - "I like coconuts, you can break them open and they smell like ladies lying in the sun. And if I had my way, I'd give a coconut to everyone."

Ice Cream Man by Van Halen - "I got good lemonade, Dixie Cups, all flavors and Push-Ups too. I'm your ice cream man, stop me when I'm passin' by. All my flavors are guaranteed to satisfy."

It's kinda like wrestling a gorilla... you don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired.
