Foods/drinks I would like to try in London

Recommended Posts

I will be in London in a few weeks, as they seem to cater for everyone, i want to try foods, meanwhile im there and sure London will have some of these, hope people can help find some if not all of this places or similar. Thanks

1) I know Jamie Oliver has restaurants but, is there anywhere that does the same as his 30 minute meals.

2) PASTAS, I want these past small pasta, Indian style with vegetables

or small pasta with amazing white sauce.

Simple tasty pasta, with minced lamb

3) RICE, - unique style of rice, for example maybe mixed with bacon.

4) Pink Pork steaks.

5) Man vs Food, but not because of large meals but the small ones in America, where they deep fry put lots of different flavours etc

6) I love salads but I want nice ones like one below, or ones with seeds prawns etc

7) hog roast, where you can eat any part.

8)fresh fish caught at sea in front of you and you eat on the boat or mainland nearby

9) Any delicacies like kidney or heart that taste nice or turducken

10) Any unique/cocktails or drinks milkshakes smoothies etc., different flavors and or nice looking

Also anything if they done it on TV show like Saturday kitchen or Sunday brunch and they do that same exact dish in a restaurant .

party platters with crisps, dips, carrots, samosas etc

I don't know about Indian-style pasta, but Locanda Locatelli, Latium and River Cafe restaurants have good pasta menus (but are expensive) or try Bocca di Lupo, Caffe Caldesi or Trullo for more reasonable options.

3) RICE, - unique style of rice, for example maybe mixed with bacon.

The Italian places mentioned above will serve risottos. Otherwise you might like Chinese pork dishes with numerous preparations of rice at Leong's Legends, Liao Wei Feng, Local Friends or Fuzhou.

4) Pink Pork steaks.

José or Pizarro, tapas bars serving rare Iberico.

5) Man vs Food, but not because of large meals but the small ones in America, where they deep fry put lots of different flavours etc

The Evening Standard recommends Jackson + Rye, Q Grill, 160 Fahrenheit, Brooklyn Bowl and the Lockhart for Southern soul food.

6) I love salads but I want nice ones like one below, or ones with seeds prawns etc

Leon and Sumo Salad do takeaway salads for lunch that are very popular; Princi is a sit-down Italian restaurant with a salad bar, or else Ottolenghi and Nopi are well known for their vegetable dishes but are very dear.

7) hog roast, where you can eat any part.

Fino and Paternoster Chop House do this, but you have to purchase the whole animal; St John is where to go to get any part of the pig without buying the entire beast.

8)fresh fish caught at sea in front of you and you eat on the boat or mainland nearby

You can't do this in London itself because it's not on the coast but Brighton is only an hour away on the train - Riddle and Finns is a reputed seafood restaurant that serves catch from the beach, although you won't see it caught, or Jack & Linda Mills Traditional Fish Smokers will do you a crab sandwich on the go.

9) Any delicacies like kidney or heart that taste nice or turducken

St John and One Leicester Street specialise in offal.

10) Any unique/cocktails or drinks milkshakes smoothies etc., different flavors and or nice looking

For cocktails: Happiness Forgets, Purl, Nightjar, Hawksmoor, Experimental Cocktail Club, Dabbous, Milk & Honey, Zetter Townhouse.
For milkshakes/smoothies (including alcoholic ones): Shake Shack, MEATliquor, Ed's Diner, Riding House Cafe

Also anything if they done it on TV show like Saturday kitchen or Sunday brunch and they do that same exact dish in a restaurant .

party platters with crisps, dips, carrots, samosas etc

There are numerous small pasta shapes;  here is a list.

party platters with crisps, dips, carrots, samosas where from or any platters

I don't know about these I'm afraid. Urbanspoon or Squaremeal might help.

Sorry - I guess they changed the menu.

Haha! You don't know London very well, do you?

Excellent curries can be found in London. Most are decidedly average. Some are awful.

It is generally accepted that central and northern England is where the best curries can be found.

(And I consider myself a Londoner.)

And, even in central and northern England, most will be decidedly average and a goodly number will be awful. Pretty much all of them will taste pretty much as the next one ...and the next one.

The poster is called Raj Patel. I'm just guessing, but I think he might already be quite familiar with Indian food.

I thought the same, but didn't like to say.

I do find the original post a bit odd though. It seems the OP has made a fantasy list of what he wants to find in London (partly derived from TV shows about home cooking rather than restaurant food) rather than find out what London food is really about.

The last one amused me. "party platters with crisps, dips, carrots, samosas etc"

He is about 30 years too late. Real 1970s/1980s food
