[Modernist Cuisine][Modernist Cuisine at Home] Verify owning the books

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to register my MCAH. I follow the link, I log in and all I get is this message (on both Safari and Firefox):

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /nfs/c07/h02/mnt/101325/domains/modernistcuisine.com/html/wp-content/themes/mc_2012/page-register.php:7) in /nfs/c07/h02/mnt/101325/domains/modernistcuisine.com/html/wp-content/themes/mc_2012/page-register.php on line 182

When I go to my profile settings there are no titles under "Registered Books"

Wow, that was painful. Took me an hour. The instructions don't say HOW to scan a QR code so I registered on my computer. To register my copy of the book it asked when & where I bought it. I don't remember that, I have had it a year or more. I guessed, and then it asked a question on a page that doesn't exist for a recipe ingredient that doesn't exist for a recipe that doesn't exist in the entire book.

So, back to the phone. To scan a QR code you need an application on your phone. I don't know, maybe all phones come with such an app now. Mine didn't and I downloaded ShopSavvy when I got my phone so I tried that. It registered but of course asked for the scratch code. I entered it and the next result was 'error, page does not exist'.

So, I don't know if I successfully registered my copy or not but I think I have spent enough effort on this. Still, for that effort I expect the additional benefits of registration to include free food prepared in the Test Kitchen!

Hope this all helps someone.

...and now they want me to do math to post. I was told there would be no math.

I, too, don't have a smart phone, but I was able to take a photo of the QR code (MCAH), use http://www.onlinebarcodereader.com/ to get a URL, copy the URL into the browser (Firefox), where I was asked for a verification code, which I entered. But then I was redirected to a page with a URL that began http://mobile/ That is not a valid URL. Fortunately, when I looked at my profile, the verification did seem to work.

You really need to do a better job of testing out smartphone-less verification, and maybe have a plain text URL on the sticker.

And just to top off the web bugs, the registration/verification resulted in an automated email offering me a discount on an MCAH eBook, but the email was in HTML and there were some extra blank lines inserted in the header so that mail readers would not recognize the HTML.

By the way, as a registered owner of both MCAH and (submitted validation tonight for) MC, I noticed the discount offered for the ebook http://modernistcuisine.com/2013/11/introducing-the-modernist-cuisine-at-home-ebook-edition/ at least for the next few weeks. I haven't received any email about it, MC(AH) staff? Thanks.

I'm a registered owner of MCAH and also did not receive the email. Did you get your discount code in the end?
