Anybody have an Estimated Date of Opening on that schnitzel place?

The food does not look all that appetizing on their website. Better get a real food photographer  I have never liked schnitzel here in NA or Europe.

Salsa & Agave Mexican Grill is now open at 1223 Pacific Boulevard in Yaletown. 604-408-4228, open Tuesday to Sunday 11:00 am to 9:30 PM.

My wife and I had lunch yesterday here and we really enjoyed it. We tried their tacos (Carne Asada, Lengua, Chorizo, and Pastor), all delicious and a reasonable price of 4 for $8.00 . I also ordered their daily special for yesterday which was Beef Enchiladas, also very tasty. Their menu has all the usual suspects of a Mexican Grill and also a few carry overs from Banano's like the Bandeja Paisa and various types of Arepas.

I am definetly looking forward to going back and trying more things.

Also, next door the new Dairy Queen is open ...

I was on Alberni St. tonight and happened upon the grand opening of Italian Kitchen, the latest venture from the Glowbal Restaurant Group. I couldn't even see the interior due to the throngs of people.

Was anyone there? Were they actually able to serve food?

Anyone have info on the place going up right beside Habit on Main? I took a walk by the other day and it looks fairly close to completion...very cool looking spot too!

It is called The Cascade Room:

“100+ seats in a bar forward atmosphere. 70% of the seats will be bar height, with a 22 seat bar, raised booths, etc. There will be a further lounge dining area toward the back of the room."

Owned by the same Nicolay/Edmonds/Pike group that brought us Tangerine (now Abigail's party) and Habit. David Nicolay and Rob Edmonds are the two designers behind Evoke International Design (Sanafir, LK Dining Lounge, Glowbal, Afterglow, Coast, Sanafir, Seventy Two, FigMint, Metro). Vancouver Magazine's current Bartender of the Year Nick Devine (ex George) is running the bar and Travis Williams (ex LK Dining Lounge, Adesso, Blue Water) is the executive chef.

UD has more here.

Hubby and I were planning to go to Habibi's for dinner last week. As we were driving by on our way to park, it appeared to be closed, so we didn't stop. Can someone else confirm Habibi's is really gone?

This sounds pretty useful if you like lists (and I do), posted today on the CityFood site:

New release! The CityFood Magazine Directory of New Vancouver Restaurants for 2007.

We started this directory as a resource for ourselves - to help us keep track of all the new restaurants that have recently opened in Vancouver, and to monitor which ones we needed to pay a visit to. Then we decided to share all this information with you.

It may not look like it, but the project quickly turned into a daunting task, perhaps the most logistically difficult content we've ever attempted in the 15 years of our publication. At one point during the production process, it seemed like new restaurants were opening daily, and the statistical data about all of them was in a constant state of flux. (The city strike which forced many restaurants to delay their opening until fall, or else speed up their projected timelines, didn't help much either.) However, for what it's worth, this is the most complete picture we could assemble when the editorial was sealed a few weeks ago.

It already needs a few updates, natch, and there are more changes in store that are approaching quickly. So instead of posting the free and downloadable digital version via our website right away, we are going to hold this back for a week or so and let the printed version circulate while we make any necessary adjustments. After that, there will be another way to keep your print copy timely, and we will let you know how that will work after the long weekend.

In the meantime, we hope you find this print edition useful, and if you spot any inaccuracies you will let us know so that we can correct it on the website version.

Wishing you a fantastic, and sunny!, Labour Day Weekend!

Beard Papa is coming to Richmond.  Slated to open in September according to their website.  That will be a nice addition to the Vancouver area!

There's a restaurant that specializes in cream puffs????:blink:

A.

If I was starting a place that specialised in Cream Puffs Richmond is where I'd put it-that Land o' Bland.

In case considering today's bouyant economy I give them 18 months tops

Papa Beard is a Japanese chain that specializes in fresh cream puffs. I've been to their outlets in HK and SF - and both do a brisk business. I suspect that the opened in Richmond because of the large Asian population. The outlet's footprint is usually very small - so it will be interesting to see how the economics work out.

The cream puffs themselves are quite delicous. Not sure if they would be a regular purchase though.

They seem to be doing quite well and expanding in many countries now. I've seen them in China, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, the States, and of course Japan. Don't dismiss it until they launch. There are some previous threads on them outside of Vancouver for those of you not familiar:

About their opening in New York: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=38345

A photo blog of their process from a Hawaii opening: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=64653

Don't knock it till you try it. When they come out fresh they are very good.

I agree, they will do just fine in Richmond. They are slightly different from the classic cream puff so that they can stay crispy longer but are fun and tasty and should do well with the Asian crowd (as well as us "lo fons" ).

On the Kit's Point (Cornwall St.) food mini-mile:

Flying Wedge Pizza has reopened.

Vera's finally coughed up the price of a beer licence and you can now get a draft with your burger.

Last but not least, Nando's Chicken is opening in a former veterinary space. Looking forward to this one.

Over at Urban Diner Andrew reports on the soon to open Pied a Terre. Of all the restaurants opening this year, this one is the one I've been waiting for, go check out the menu.

Here’s a first look at the menu that’ll be on offer at Cambie’s upcoming and highly anticipated Pied-à-Terre. The new French bistro from Parkside and La Buca owners Chris Stewart and Andrey Durbach is set to open in October…

Cheers,

Anne

Bistro 1734 on Marine Drive in West Van has closed its doors. I don't know if that's a shame or not. When it first opened it was great, but the last two times I've been it was sub-par.

The space has already been snapped up. It's going to open as an Indian restaurant. Hope it's good. I would love to have someplace that sells butter chicken and sag panir within walking distance of my house.

Over at Urban Diner, we reported on that and a whole whack of other West Vancouver tidbits a couple of weeks ago, buried in an omnibus post (see here). The new Indian place is going to be called "All India". I hope they fare better.

Helen and I checked out the new Coal Harbour Urban Fare today. It's about 2/3rd the size of the Yaletown location but nicer looking and better laid out. Great selection of exotic mushrooms, Hill'meats (1/3rd more expensive than Stong's), and cheeses arranged by style rather than geography. The cafe/coffee bar opens later this weekly.
