at least 1,800... probably a few hundred more. I stopped counting because that isn't what it's about.

After reading (and reading) several threads, I caved, so add 3 for me: Cradle of Flavor, Into the Vietnamese Kitchen, and Baking from My Home to Yours. After having most of my books packed away for almost a year, It was like Christmas when I unpacked. But...there are always more books out there to tempt me!

"Imagine all the food you have eaten in your life and consider that you are simply some of that food, rearranged."  -Max Tegmark, physicist

Gene Weingarten, writing in the Washington Post about online news stories and the accompanying readers' comments: "I basically like 'comments,' though they can seem a little jarring: spit-flecked rants that are appended to a product that at least tries for a measure of objectivity and dignity. It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."

"...in the mid-’90s when the internet was coming...there was a tendency to assume that when all the world’s knowledge comes online, everyone will flock to it. It turns out that if you give everyone access to the Library of Congress, what they do is watch videos on TikTok."  -Neil Stephenson, author, in The Atlantic

I'm only eight (or nine) books away from having every cookbook that I want.

actually, if you subtract books that are about food but not primarily cookbooks (tho they may contain recipes), 141.

Sincerely,

Dante

Not that many, perhaps three or four dozen (not including my brewing books, of which I have maybe a dozen), and I'm trying to pare those down as well. After a certain number, I neglect too many books. I'm going to scan recipes from some if there are a few that I return to while never touching another recipe in the book, then give away or sell those cookbooks.

I just came from the fall Friends of the Library sale with 23 nice finds including McClane 's Encyclopedia of Fish, Sophie Grigson's Gourmet Ingredients, L'Atelier of Alain Ducasse and one I've never seen, Art and Cook published by Allan Ben. There have been at least a few others since last post, but call it 25. We are so close to 150,000.

I've been negligent in my reporting! I've added at least 10 to the collection; Goddess in the Kitchen, Bill Neal's Southern Cooking, The Martha Stewart Cookbook, Southern Living's Homestyle Table, Desserts that Have Killed Better Men than Me (OMG!!!!) Frank Stitt's Southen Table and a bunch of church/community/school books. Forgive my omissions, please!:laugh:

After hitting a couple books sales last month and picking up some gems, I brought my total to 73. Those can be added.

I made the STUPID mistake of buying something called " Grandmother's Kitchen Wisdom" I thought it would be old timey hints and tips; instead its a badly edited least-common-denominator book fit only for semi-literate first year Home Ec students. YUCK! Waste of money, big time!

Add two for me, The Texas Cowboy Cookbook, and Rogov's new one, Rogues, Writers and Whores. I must say, that while the latter is a very good, funny book, Rogov needs to Canonize his illustrator, fire his editor and crucify his proofreader. Erata all over the place, a recipe with dead end ingredients (listed in the ingredient list, but never used in the instructions) pages missing, etc. Still in all, it's a great read!

Four Mexican-themed books for me, including one on the way.

Zarela Martinez – Zarela’s Veracruz: Mexico’s Simplest Cuisine

Susana Trilling – Seasons of My Heart: A Culinary Journey through Oaxaca, Mexico

Aida Gabilondo – Mexican Family Cooking (I checked this book out of the library years ago, and it includes my go-to flan recipe)

The fourth book is only tangentially related to food, but inspired by Rachel Laudan's recent foodblog and culinary history research:

Charles Mann - 1491: New Revelations of the Americas before Columbus

I am planning to move some books around... That might give me a good opportunity to count my cookbooks because, well, I'd like to know! I know it's over 100 (like I posted before), but just HOW MUCH over, I don't know.

Well, I recently counted. My food-related book collection numbers 360.

My name is Drew, and I'm a cookbook-aholic.
