I got eight for Christmas that I mentioned above(actually nine but I gave one away), but without looking thru our library or the various rooms and just looking at what is in relatively plain sight, we have 75(including the eight). But that is only touching the surface, not looking really thru the shelves or the closets where the really big hoard is. When I have theopportunity to count I'll revise the number.

Three (maybe four) more for me:

Cookbook:

Dornenburg and Page's Culinary Artistry

Books about food:

Food, Inc. by Peter Pringle

Best American Food Writing 2003 (Sorry, it's at home and I can't remember the editor's name. Spookily, Amazon doesn't seem to have it listed and a Google search didn't turn it up either! I'm pretty sure that's what it's called, though.)

Other (If this one counts):

Cosmopolitan; A Bartender's Life by Toby Cecchini

Cheers,

Squeat

Hi Maggie:

2 more for me......................Christmas gifts:

"The Ultimate Pressure Cooker Cookbook" (1997), Tom Lacalamita; to go with a Kkuhn Rikon pressure cooker I also received. I hadn't used one since I was in school..................35 years ago. It's great!

"Tadich Grill" (2002), John Briscoe; the history of that venerable San Francisco landmark as well as many other old San Francisco restaurants. This really brought back memories of meeting my father for lunch at Tadich's, Sam's, The Old Poodle Dog, The Palace Court, or Jacks..............in the '50s............all dressed up in a sportcoat and tie  I manage to get out there a couple of times a year and still always go to Tadich's.

Hey Jude,

Is the Encyclopedia of Sushi Rolls well......encyclopedic? I have seen it and am not sure if it would be useful or not.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I forgot to count the oversize books that I keep on a separate bookshelf from my other cook books:

Jean-Louis Cooking with the Seasons by Fred J. Maroon ( A gorgeous coffee-table book with photographs by Maroon of dishes by Jean-Louis Palladin ). The recipes in the back qualify it as a cook book.

Two copies of El Bulli 1998 - 2002, one in Spanish and one in English.

Also I found some great books on the discount table at my local bookstore, among them:

the bread bible by Rose levy Beranbaum

Bold American Food by Bobby Flay

Cooking at Home by Julia Child and Jaques Pepin

That last one was a real find. Buried amongst a stack of remaindered copies for $10 each was one that was autographed by Jaques and Julia!

Maggie, I finally opened one of the cartons of my mother's books, so you can add 31 to the running total.
