Im doing GABA Basmati Brown  ( TJ' rice )

as my first 3C induction test run

Ill report later   3 hrs or more , but nothing for me to do !

my question on the Zo's :

can you ' set ' the clock / timer to show you

a count-down to done ?

granted , it would be fuzzy , and change a bit during a cycle

or is that not possible.     3 + hours cooks :  it be nice to see time left

even if its Fuzzy .

How's the GABA rice?

the GABA  Br rice was good '

IMG_1682.thumb.jpg.067f8c5c25891fc9e90a39a2661fc85c.jpg

each grain was nicely cooked , and the husk was more or less part of moist component

that held the rice together , as you can see in the photo

this was not the style of brown rice where the brown-ness was dry , offensive etc

it was not individual grains of the sort I get w regular basmati.

it needed some mix-ins of some sort  .  its like a pilaf if you will

I doubt you need this setting on a machine that does not have it :

the BrR simply sat in warm water for about 2 hours and then cooked.

adding warm ( 105 F ) water to a regular Zo , then setting it up to start cooking

2 hours later would no doubt do the trick.

Soooooo much Extra GABA   ( 150 % vs regular BrR per manual , or 50 % more , your choice )

I had to sit down and have a Personal Beverage.

today Ill try the same TJ's BrR on a regular BrR setting

and see if there is a difference in texture etc.

I hope to figure out how to get my BabyZo to do the countdown

until done .

P.S.:  in terms of ' sprouted '  , the grains didn't look sprouted at all :

ie beginning to grow .  that certainly takes more than 2 hours.

Today , I used the same TJ's BrRice

same rinse , measurements

but now in the 3C-ind

the Brown Rice setting .

IMG_1685.thumb.jpg.6fcbaf6180690d1a9127f0e584eae307.jpg

Id not make much of any color differences

the BR setting for this rice :

texture is what Id point to .

a version of pilaf :  moist , not wet in any way , with texture w both

some firmness , but mostly tenderness.

this version : Brown stetting was a it different than GABA :

this version still had a bit of firmness , a bit more ' brown flavor/texture '

and very nice .   more going on w Brown setting

viz  texture and flavor.

that 35 %  ( adjusted )  GABA  possible loss :

Im sure in Japan , rice is looked into , as many ways as possible 50 % increase GABA  Fine.

however for me , I think I can work with  the plain Brown setting

its a tiny bit firmer , and more of a bran flavor and texture

just a bit , but sill tender

both , GABA setting , or 2 H in your Zo 105 soak :  a bit more tender

a bit more muted .

or the Brown setting : a bit more ' Brown ' , but not too much

are delici0ous in their own way.

@ElsieD

its easy e tough to simulate

as mentioned above .

many places , both books and on-line

suggest soaking before cooking

brown rice : taking that dry , inedible stuff

to something worth looking into .  Fuzzy-Wize

I completely agree .

the Brown setting does this w a total cook of  1:30 hr

or 3 hr w the GABA.

with trying once w a 2hr soak

with one cup each way

to taste and decide .

you would have to learn the programmed cook stuff

it looks very easy tp do .

I like the On button .  that programmed stuff :

Im glad its there

for others

the 3C-Ind  that I have

its quite wonderful .  many reasons .

the Induction , which is far from free ?

no idea .  as I understand it,

Your Want 3 ? , we add induction ! '

it does have a close to Fatal Flaw :

Push On ( my goal ! )  :  "" Twinkle Twinkle Little Star """

the tone ?   ( w work , for fairness , you can choose ' beep' or nada

Id very much prefer

" Sultans of Swing "

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U

nothing better .

My Neuro Fuzzy has arrived!  I bought a bag of Lundberg Wild Rice Blend which contains long grain brown rice, sweet brown rice, wild rice, whole grain Wehani rice, and whole grain Black Japonica rice.  Now this may seem like a very, very, stupid question but is this cooked on the Mixed Rice setting?  If so, are any adjustments required?  Thanks!

congratulations , you are going to have

a fine time . w great results

[ one does try to keep track of water rations , and adjust later ]

so   ... all those  items and grains are all mixed together ?

most are ' whole grain '  :::   is that the same as ' Brown '  :::  the total rice package ?

Id start w one unite of the mixture , wash , then use the brown rice ratio :

rice :: 2 water

and cook it on " Mixed "

then see what you think .

I always would open the RC'r , and fluff

the mixture , and in the end got the mixture

an warm , but fluffed up

as the texture I was looking for .

looking forward to your discoveries.

P.S.:  is there a ref to the bag ( if its that ) ?

would you consider a pic of the bag ?

just curious .

Id start with water .

then move on to other liquids

after you get a feel for water ::: rinsed grains.

of the top of my head

Cnut milk might do better on

' porridge '

as milk w groats does.

I believe the "Mixed Rice" setting refers to add ins such as vegies etc rater than mixed rice varieties if the rices require different cooking methods, I don't think one setting will do the trick, but as rotus has suggested, try it find out 🙂

I cooked up some white basmati rice ronight.  I assumed "white" meant any white rice. In went  1  measue of rice then filled the pot with water to the 1 cup line.  The rice is delicious as those with rice cookers know.  I'm very pleased with my first batch.  Flushed with success,   I put some oatmeal and water in the pot, set the timer for 12 hours and hope that we get something edible in the morning.  @Kerry Beal You cook oatmeal using the porridge setting, can you tell me how much oatmeal and water you use?  I used 80 gm of oatmeal and 560 ml water, which is what I use for stovetop oatmeal

I've cooked the same mix on the brown rice setting in my Zo, and it came out well.

Our oatmeal was good, but I would not necessariily cook it using the timer again, at least not for 12 hours.  If you like oatmeal without texture, you'd like it done this way.  It had no "chew" and I prefer to have some texture to mine.  When it first came on, there was a fair bit of liquid spouting through the vent though I stopped after a few minutes.  Maybe that's the nature of oatmeal?  These were rolled oats, perhaps steel cut oats work better?

I used to make oatmeal in my Zo for my late husband (I don't like oatmeal myself._

He said it was the best he'd ever had.  I used the steel cut variety with porridge setting.

Thanks for this, @lindag.  I have steel cut oats so i'll try it next time.  Do you recall the ratio of oats to water, or did you use the porridge setting?

Zeus will soon  be

a bit annoyed

that your are spending time with the Zo

and not admiring his mighty fine tail.

I got my first Fuzzy

based on reading this book from the library

https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Rice-Cooker-Cookbook-Porridges/dp/1558326677/ref=sr_1_1?crid=22AG0MF1E2KIS&keywords=ultimate+rice+cooker+cookbook&qid=1661358824&sprefix=ultimate+rice%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-1

just for steel cut oaks  cooked w milk

push one button , no scorching !

I  cooled off mass , then

in contianers

in the refrigerator ,

and microwave my AM delicious bowl

each day .   and each bowl got a bir more milk

to losing it up , as I think oats continued to absorb

water , for some time.  its easy to add more milk the next

day , and microwave for breakfast

I do not have experience w rolled oats

re : fuzzy type cooking.

consider trying

' steel cut oats '  cooked w milk

I use McCanns and I believe I just use the ratio listed on the can.

That's right.

I cooked the wild rice blend tonight on the brown setting as @chromedome suggested.  Delicious.  The strange thing is that both last night and tonight I cooked 1 Zo measuring cup of rice.  I could have cooked less.  When i made rice using my old method, I always cooked 1 regular cup of rice and we had no problem finishing it.  I can't figure out why that should be the case.
