Air Fryers

Insignia is like Kenmore, I believe; they don't manufacture anything themselves. Given that, I'd be surprised if there aren't air fryers under other brand names that have the same issue...

(Moved here from the air fryer cooking forum)

So -- Someone a half-hour drive from me is selling a "rarely used" Instant Vortex Plus, the one with the rotisserie. They're asking $50, so I probably could offer $40. We sort of have the counter space for it, and I hate passing up a bargain, but I'm trying to figure out whether we'd actually use it enough to justify even the $40. We usually don't eat frozen convenience foods, except for Amy's pizza. We might occasionally use the rotisserie for a small chicken. We roast vegetables regularly. Our friend who has the same model said she uses hers to toast bagels. (!) Our GE gas stove has an air fryer setting, although of course it's a much bigger space. We also have a full-sized Breville toaster oven but w/o a separate air fryer setting.

No useful thoughts or questions.  We bought an air fryer last year and I think we've used it twice.  During this time our son has come twice to visit and lend a hand.  He uses it constantly.

I use mine for various items that don't just turn out exceptionally well in an AF

but much quicker :

various Fz items from Tj's ,  and also from Tj's . Pizza-ish :

I had one for about two years. I didn't feel that it did anything well.  If I want something fried, I want it crunchy/crisp and the airfryer never achieved that.

If you have the Breville, wouldn't it be redundant?

Yes, that's what I was wondering. As you know, there's a convection oven setting, which is what an air fryer does, so I'm told.

Would you, could you, sell it if you don't use it?

Would, yes. Could, probably, if I'm patient. The one I have my eye on (both eyes, actually, although I usually alternate) has been for sale for nearly a month; the asking price was just lowered from $75.

The temperature read-out on my instant Vortex AF has gone on the fritz.  Only partial parts of numbers show up.  Also, it's hard to tell but it looks like the temperature settings are also off.  Anyone else have/had this problem?

@Kerry Beal

link did not work for me , but found this :

https://www.t-fal.ca/en/infrared-air-fryer.html

the ad seems to indicate this unit gets much hotter

'''

Revolutionary Infrared technology heats up to 750°F /400°C in just 45 seconds* – no pre-heating needed!

 '''

however :

'''' cook everything to perfection with temperatures from 450°F/230°C to 160°F/70°C.  ''

this would indicate it really doesn't get my hotter than a 400 F  ( my AF limit )

but might get hot much quicker .  i don pre heat , but this might shave off a couple of minutes .

and has a view-window.

in the past it was my impression that one avoided the video-window models

but perhaps that has changed.

very interested in an owners impression .

looking over the ref site :

20 % off  , free shipping come in at $ 136  and I think this site is Canadian.

I don't really remember .

some of the window models were seriously discounted , and next models didn't have a window.

no more than that.

someone has to take a few for the team on this

in terms of faster AF'ing and , and useful window.

there is nothing wrong w my model and how I use it

to get me to try this one.

rats

this model is 6 L   their 6.5 L model costs $ 285 .

wonder why the difference in price

I can pick it up for $134 with labour day discount but I don't really want an air fryer. The community connectors at work do - but we'd have nothing to compare it to.

which brings me to a question for seasoned AF'rs  :

have you cooked//baked//AF ( at the appropriate Temp )

a whole ( but small so it fits ) chicken in an AF ?

how big was the chicken ?  what AF temps did you use and time s ?

The IR air fryer looks interesting especially since mine just went on the fritz.  I may take one for the team, depending on what the Instant people tell me tomorrow.  My current one goes from 325 to what looks like 420 in one fell swoop.  Hard to tell for sure as only partial numbers are displayed.

Do you know for how long the discount applies?
