Casual and takeaway places in North Melbourne

 Share

Recommended Posts

We will be moving into North Melbourne next week and want to know more about the area. We will get to Melbourne and our things won't arrive for a few days. So, we'll have to spend a few days eating out or getting takeaway.

Not looking for anything fancy right now, just good, causal places. Probably want inexpensive places too as we're are kind of poor after paying bond, rent and moving expenses. Also want places close by that we can walk to. We're a few blocks away from Errol St. and Victoria St.

TIA!

If you are in North Melbourne, you will be within walking distance of Queen Vic Markets and the CBD. Is that why you chose the place? :)

Anyway, for good cheap food ... try the Ramen. You could replicate what a group of food bloggers did and try all the top rated Ramen places. Articles here:

(you can find more links within the article).

Otherwise, good cheap places are abundant in Little Bourke St (i.e. Chinatown). Stashed everywhere else in town are plenty of exquisite little eateries, but not on a budget.

Keith - you got it! I'm paying more rent for about half the space I have now, but it'll be so worth it.

Love, love, love ramen. Have been deprived of it for a year while in Canberra. Not doubt I will be hitting some of those spots

BTW, anyone know of good places that deliver? I have a feeling that during the move, we may get too tired to have 3 meals out a day.

Hi Anna. In the past (sans demanding children), we’ve used the Cheap Eats and Good Food guides published by the local paper (The Age). Results were a bit hit and miss, but I suppose that’s half the fun. You can pick it up at their website but most bookstores keep copies. Might be due for a new release very soon.

We found most places were happy to take plastic.

First post

I have NEVER had a good experience with any joint that delivers food. Have you?

Anyway, if you must eat like that - I suggest you try some of the bakeries and charcutiers around your area. It takes no effort to slap together a delicious baguette with some ham, or salmon, with nice cheese and a salad.

I don't know where all the other Melbourne eG'ers live ... there are a few more who seem to be strangely silent :)

Deliveries is only when we're desperate. After a day on the road or unpacking stuff, I'm too tired to get myself decent enough even for a neighborhood place.....
