Sorry for the choppy posts!

Western style BBQ sometimes also called Lexington style is made with a red sauce and is sweeter. It is also served with a 'red slaw' that incorporates the BBQ sauce.

Obviously I'm biased being from eastern NC!

The other things Nc is known for are Krispy Kreme, Pepsi, and Cheerwine.

Yeah! A Carolina foodblog!

I grew up in Durham and spent almost 20 years in Morehead City, where they are rightfully proud of their whole hog BBQ.

I encourage you to visit the farmers market in downtown Durham........it gets better and better every year.

I like your list of in state food products and would add Bojangles Chicken 'n' Biscuits.

Looking forward to the rest of the week.

Fiance is cooking dinner currently (and he never cooks - but if he gets a notion who am I to hold him back?) so here's some cookbook porn to tide you over.

I'm in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel hill area. Also known as 'the Triangle'. Home to the Research triangle park, UNC Tarheels, Nc state Wolfpack and Duke Blue Devils. I'm a Wolfpack fan and NC State alum. I live in a suburb of Raleigh called Apex. I work in Durham in the RTP. I'm a rare species in this area a native North Carolinian. I grew up about 2hours to the northeast in a rural county. NC is beautiful and dear to my heart.

Whoo Hoo! Go Wolfpack! I'm also NCSU alum and W-S native. Looking forward to your blog.

Breakfast was the "go to" of my childhood for a quick snack, on the road breakfast, or afternoon snack for the farmers at the country store..... "NABS" and a soda. In this case a Diet Mountain Dew (I'm looking at you Shelby)

Oh, yeah! Nabs and a tab - the 'diet' lunch of my teen years! We actually took a box of Nabs to England with us on our trip last month. Just in case!

I'm so excited about this blog! My family roots are in NC. My dad's side are all from Carteret County (Morehead City); in fact, my great-Aunt was Morehead's "Cake Lady," or one of them, at least, and is featured in this cookbook. My mom's folks are all from Davie County. Will be eagerly reading along.

Edited to add: mom was graduated from Meredith, and Daddy from State. Go Pack!

I can't help noticing your breakfast plates - are they Fiestaware?

Yes I love fiesta! I have a set in the blue and yellow and a number of dishes and bowls in other colors.

I finally surrended to a long-held love last year and now have 10 place settings, each in a different color, plus quite a few pieces in Black. SIGH.

Now they have introduced Marigold for their 75th anniversary - and I am trying to figure out what I could possibly "need" in that color....

Yes! Collecting Fiesta is indeed a slippery slope.... :raz:

Hi everyone.

No computer problems (yet) today! Here's dinner last night. sorry for blurry photos and messy plates. I'm calling this my "true life" foodblog. :raz:

squash and onions.jpg

As I mentioned the Fiance cooked last night. We had a simple salad, steaks and baked potato. (man food).

For some reason I can only post 1 pic per entry on my work computer. so much for no computer problems.

Here is pictured some squash and onions with a bit of S&P and olive oil wrapped in foil and also put on the grill (the feminine touch to the meal) :raz:

toolprincess-

i fondly remember the triangle from many years ago. after our first year of marriage in Hooks, Tx and environs this was the first place we could have food that WASN'T FRIED while moving back north.

we were still tx bbq oriented (beef over open pit) and the first thing we both ordered was broiled fish.

are there any places that do mutton bbq around you? or any variations of bbq? how prevalent are other food styles such as various asian or traditional soul/southern?

now one of my old coworkers has retired and live in your town and we just lost a good friend to a new job in the triangle.

Nothing is better than frying in lard.

Nothing.  Do not quote me on this.

Oh, I wish I could remember the name of the barbecue place. It's one of those "It's an institution" type places that everyone in town knows. I want to say Bull's, but I think I'm just channeling the movie.

Bullock's Barbecue? It's something of an institution around here.

I'm another NCSU Alum living in Apex.

Congrats Laurie, and thanks for taking the time + energy to show us your food this week.

Three questions:

  1. Will you barbecue?
  2. What's Cheerwine?
  3. Wasn't Spud (shortest guy ever to win NBA Slamdunk contest) Webb from NC State?

OMG I'm late to this party, but I'm loving it!

I'm dying to read ahead and discover what Cheerwine is and if, here in Kansas, I can get some. I loves me anything that includes wine!

AND, I have a special place in my heart for Spud Webb....I'm short...and my nickname in school was "spud".

Okay finally moving into today

This morning I stopped at Bojangles to pick up some breakfast (lordy blogging is going to have me gaining 20lbs in a week) :raz:

I picked up a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit (mentioned in the Bojangles thread for its hangover curative properties) and a Bo'berry biscuit - a bo's biscuit with blueberries and drizzled with glaze.

Behold!

Unfortunately not much to report so far today. My work computer suffered a "catastrophic" failure and I have spent much of the day waiting at my desk for the computer guys to come and rescue me.

Back up and running now (thank goodness).

Breakfast was the "go to" of my childhood for a quick snack, on the road breakfast, or afternoon snack for the farmers at the country store..... "NABS" and a soda. In this case a Diet Mountain Dew (I'm looking at you Shelby)

Lunch was a Mini Tuna Sandwich from Jersey Mike's which I ended up grabbing at about 3:15 (sorry no pictures).

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I love me some fellow Dew heads!!!!!!

Thanks for the nod--had some technical problems getting in here or else I'd have answered earlier.

Today's lunch was nonexistent. So tonight after taking care of some wedding business (renting a venue), I was starving.

Matt is a huge fan of italian and pizza so we headed over to Bella Mia authentic coalfired pizza.

Since I was very hungry I ordered an appetizer - caprese crostini. Very good. I love fresh mozzarella. Their featured appetizer was burrata but by the time we arrived they were sold out.

Matt ordered a calzone with fresh mozzarella and sausage and I ordered the Bleecker Street pizza (arugula, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, parmagiano regiano and prosciutto di parma.

I love that smoky crispy coalfired crust!

After dinner we headed to YoPop. I am kind of obsessed with the Original tart flavor (sweet and sour!).

This is a self-serve yogurt place where they charge you by the ounce. You have a selection of toppings to choose from and can pile them on as much or little as you wish. they are the only franchise of yogurt shops around that has the plain tart flavor (that I have found so far) and they also have POPPING BOBA in assorted flavors as a topping.

My wife is originally from Richmond, Va., and when we got married in Savannah 2 years ago we roadtripped through the Carolinas. As many may already know, in Richmond there are a million different statues.....Confederate General, Confederate General, Confederate General, ARTHUR ASHE (beating kids with his tennis racket), Confederate General, Confederate General, Confederate General, MR. BOJANGLES.....

With that being a running joke, our stop at Bojangles somewhere on the road to Savannah was quite an event. And I do remember liking the biscuits quite a bit....and I think really good fries?

Drank Cheerwine whenever I saw it available...here in the midwest we rely on Vess soda products for that crazy-sweet fruity flavor.
