Eric Ripert's New Knife Carrier

that's beyond silly, the carrier most likely costs more than the entire set of knives! Unless they are hand forged or extremely expensive super specialty knives, this has a bit too much of a "I'm a celebrity, look at me" taste to me. Seems like chefs all over the world are perfectly able to transport their knives somehow....

What's next, designer spoons? Oh - wait - we have those already

Nice!

If I understood the article, the chef's favourite knives went to France to be fitted into the case while 'months passed'. How did he manage without them? Or - horror! - could it be his special knives aren't that special?

Chef Ripert doesn't do much prep at this stage in his career. My guess is that his knives mostly come out when he's doing public events.

He has earned his station, lord knows a the road to become a chef is a hard one, I certainly don't be-grudge him some luxuries. Especially as he does travel quite a bit and chefs and cooks can be crazy about their tools. Some might even say knife nuts, lol.
