Best press for Cheese Straws

I have tried the cookie presses from Williams-Sonoma, Pampered Chef, and Kuhn Rikon. All of them have been overpowered by my cheese straws which are made with 5 cups of double sifted flour, 1t salt, 1t cayenne, and two red blocks of Cracker Barrel cheddar. I need a better solution. I pipe the straws through the star shaped pastry tip and it will not cycle to the next notch after a while. I never use the cookie disks. I am thinking something with a screw or hydraulic mechanism would be better.

The modern cookie press of my experience is just no match for this dough. What is your favorite cookie press for cheese straws?

My little meat grinder came with extruders in star shape and a ribbon shape so I use those as my cheese straw recipe is also too stiff for cookie presses.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett

Hello, and Merry Christmas (the best time for making cheese straws).

I have successfully used a Mirro "16 pc. Cookie Pastry Press" for a number of years for my cheese straws. It has an aluminum barrel and a big knurled knob to facilitate extruding the dough. I also use the star shape die. After a few dozen cranks, my hand gets a little sore, but the press holds up just fine! I believe I bought mine at Bridge Kitchenware in NYC, but I could be wrong...

Good luck!
