Purple/Violet Macaron

I'm planning on making a small dessert for a wedding. The theme color is a purple/violet and I was thinking about a macaron maybe. Anyone have any ideas or recipes? I'm trying to find a reliable Pierre Herme recipe that I can use but for now I'm heading towards http://www.mytartelette.com/2009/03/recipe-violet-macarons-with-violet-and.html

Pretty. You can also use luster dust mixed with lemon extract (or something else high-alcohol and fast-evaporating) to paint the macarons any color you like.

I am sure there is a macaron thread or two if you search, if you need general advise on making/troubleshooting.

Those are pretty! I'm not an experienced macaron baker, but the first thing I thought of when you mentioned purple was taro.

Something like this maybe?

But then I looked up taro recipes and found this, so maybe what you would really want is ube, or purple yam, assuming that was a route you choose to take.

In Frozen Desserts Francisco Migoya colors a basic macaron base with purple food coloring and fills them with cassis sorbet and almond ice cream. They're tasty and those flavors could be easily translated in buttercreams or an almond buttercream and a cassis jelly.

It's kinda like wrestling a gorilla... you don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired.

My first thought when I saw your title was the recipe from Tartelette's blog. Lavender might be an option for the violets.

I wonder where she got the violet flavored pearl sugar? When I googled violet flavored sugar, I got some directions on how to make some, but I don't have violets around and can't make my own. I'd love to know where to get it retail or commercially.

I've just sent her a note on Twitter. I'll post her reply when it comes.

Here's a photo of one...might be in one of his Japan shops (not sure if that makes any difference)

Awesome! I hope she replies............thanks for doing that.

I guess I should have read her whole article as she says it's mentioned. Helen was kind enough to give me the link: http://www.earthydelights.com/home.cfm. I don't have time right now to look through the site but it looks interesting.

Here's the link she included in her article. They have petals vs flowers and it's much more economical. http://www.markethallfoods.com/products.php?product=Candied-Violet-Petals
