How nice can a £21 loaf be?

Just curious to know if anyone has sampled one of these?

I never considered where we live to be a foodie hotbed, but Mrs Sheepish bumped into someone to day who has eaten said loaf, and says it's fantastic. I'm always up for trying something so glowingly thought of, and Mrs Sheepish is a dab hand at sourdough bread baking so strongly considering an order. But really, £21? For a loaf of bread?

Any eGullet experience?

Ingredients: Spelt flour, Cornish sea salt, and water.

Hmmm. £21 seems a bit steep, unless it's too big to fit in the back of a Smart Car.

Would you believe a rat filled with cough drops?

It is a two kilo (4.5 pound) loaf of bread. Consider that the "standard" boule is one pound. So in effect you're getting four loaves at around £5.25 apiece. Not cheap, but not outrageously expensive either.

Okay, I sold a two-pound, 100% whole-grain, spelt sourdough (the sourdough starter also 100% whole-grain spelt), for $5.90 Canadian. I justified this price that regular flour cost me about $17 for 20 kg; organic flour was about $35 per 20 kg and spelt and Kamut was around $65 per 20 kg. So 21 pounds ... in Canadian dollars these day about $15 for a loaf of bread, does seems rather pricey. I would put my spelt up against anyone's any day,for the price I was charging.

As far as I am aware that is the price including delivery.

I have bought their sample bread boxes a few times now as I think the bread is excellent. I do not have a decent local baker so mail order is my best option. The range for online sales seem to have expanded recently so you can now stock up on your favourite loaf.

I make a lot of bread myself but cannot match the depth of flavour these guys do.

The bread has always arrived beautifully packaged with notes about each loaf.
