Indian cuisine in london

Recommended Posts

Im taking my old man down to watch a spurs match in the new year and he likes a curry so i thought i see what London has to offer in terms of Indian food. Whats your favourite place? I hear Benares is closed for a bit because of that fire but im going in the new year so it should be open again should you want to include there.

last indian i had in London was awful no doubt about that, london better provide this time.

I'm not really up to speed on Indian cuisine in London, however we had a pleasant Sunday lunch at Michelin star Quilon, which was decidedly different to the norm.

It is perhaps six months ago, and I noticed recently a respected food blogger did not rate it very much on a recent visit.

We did enjoy it though.

Its very close to Buckingham Palace, so you could pop along and wave to the Queen

What kind of indian are you looking for?

Are you looking for high end Michelin stuff? Or do you want something more mid-level?

May favourite has been Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, haven't been for a while, but has always been superb when i have been.

If you're oldman is a spurs supporter perhaps you'd like a meal that was alright for the first 42 minutes then just fell apart after that?

Agreed with Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, although I can't help but feel that prices have markedly increased recently. Had a great dinner there with some Indian work colleagues on Friday. Be careful of table turning however. We were booked 7 thru 9pm, and deliberately arrived 15 mins early. With the rate that the tasting menu was coming there was no way we were going to make it. We left at about 11pm in the end. I would have been nice to know we had the table all night rather than having mild anxiety about having to leave mid meal! Still love the mushroom kedgeree thing with tomato ice cream that they do. If only all vegetarian food was like that.

Also I do like Amaya, once you can get over the clientele of beyond-middle-age Russian and Arab gentlemen who frequent with their 'escorts'. Food is very different to Bhatia, and a rather more relaxed atmosphere.

Zaika is also good IMHO.

The Bombay Brasserie, reopened a few short months ago, is OK but I find it a bit hit and miss on the dishes.

Although Pakistani, New Tayyabs and the Lahore Kebab House still stand out at the other end of the price spectrum.

Cheers, Howard

well seeing as this always happens id prefere something that was 'triffic' all the way through because im damn sure the match wont be haahah

high end or somewhere in the middle is good for me. michelin or not. someone was telling me about this Rasoi Vineet Bhatia a couple of months back actually, surprised i didnt remember that. im not too keen on being rushed though especially if im going to go for a set menu so amaya sounds like a good idea.

is booking in advance recomended for any of these places?
