Manhattan

  • 2-1/2 oz rye or bourbon whiskey
  • 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
  • Dash bitters

Stir or shake gently with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry or a twist.

Variations:

Substitute dry vermouth for the sweet or use half and half (a perfect Manhattan).

Rob Roy: Substitute blended scotch for the rye
