I'm still not sure how I'm getting up to Ann Arbor yet but I will be there and Edsel has offered to bring me back.

I am definitely in for:

Friday morning bread workshop

Friday night dinner at Grange

Saturday evening feast

and am undecided but will probably join:

Thursday night at Chia Shiang

Friday foodie field trip

Saturday afternoon taste tests

Sunday Bacon Tasting & Brunch (this depends on the time as I need to be back in Cleveland by mid afternoon)

Catching up here...

Re Grange, I'll go as high as need be, but $75-80, including tax and tip, seems appropriate for a six-course tasting menu, as does $40-45 for 2½-3-oz. mid-level wine pairings. I won't be there Thursday, but if I were, I'd prefer something local (and specially prepared) like the Szechuan meal over the schlep to Detroit, as good as Roast may be.

Alex has the price range about right for Grange. I love Roast (and love the idea of supporting a downtown Detroit business), but Szechuan would be great too.

Question for those coming in for Thursday night - Hong Kong Chinese banquet (lots of seafood) or Szechuan?

And for those who'd be interested in a Friday foodie field trip - Mexicantown in Detroit, or Dearborn, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of Arab Americans outside the middle east?

http://www.mlive.com/travel/index.ssf/2010/03/dearborn_discover_a_muslim_wel.html

Szechuan preferred. We have some great Hong Kong food here in Cleveland.

I'd like to do the field trip if it doesn't conflict with Kerry's workshop (I suspect it would...). I would vote for Dearborn. We have some small Halal grocers here in Cleveland. Dearborn is a whole other story.

I know that I've not yet gotten the final details to people, but I should have a few things finalized soon. So might as well start attaching some names to actual activities. Who's in for what?

I'm wondering if perhaps instead of the Thermomix workshop we just have the few people who are interested join me while I make whatever I make for the big meal. We could make a few different things and just work around the time people need for their own dishes for the big meal.

Any thoughts?

This sounds workable. I did not want to miss learning more about the Thermomix, but I had my heart set on visiting some 'ethnic' markets, something almost completely lacking in my home life.

Thanks, Kerry

Kerry: So are you definitely not going to do the TMX workshop on Friday afternoon?

Looks like there was only going to be 3 and me (and one of 3 wasn't sure) so seems to make sense to just show it off while we cook on Saturday.

I may have already asked this, and forgive me if I have, but is there any chance of getting in touch with the No.9 Burger guy? I tried to send him a message via Twitter, but he hasn't shown up there lately.

I hope he'll be setting up his burger trailer at the Farmer's Market or somewhere!

In that case, do people wanting to do the bread workshop still want 8:30 am - 12:30 pm? Or do we want to shift it later? I don't personally care what time we do it, but I know there were other afternoon activities planned besides what was originally Kerry's TMX workshop.

Any strong opinions one way or the other?

As a side trip, I was also trying to find time to visit a local Ann Arbor eatery, Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger, and Friday afternoon right after the bread workshop may just be that time for me. Of course, anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I'd prefer to keep the workshop at its scheduled time, or even shift it earlier half an hour earlier (but I'm probably the only one who would want that!).

I'm planning to do Blimpy Burgers, too, but probably on Thursday if I don't do the group dinner.

@tammylc--could you tell me the name of the restaurant supply shop that will be included in the Friday pm tour?

I'm trying to find a replacement 4-cup rice pot (just the inner pot) for my rice cooker and I'm hoping they carry it or can order it in for me.

I found a source online, but then I'd have to find someone to accept the shipment for me (assuming the store would ship to a US address even if I use a Canadian credit card).

Here's their website:

And if you decide you need to order online and can make that all work, I'm happy to accept shipment for you and hold it until the gathering. PM me for address info.

I am sorry -so very sorry  that I cannot make it. It has been a bit hard getting plans together for my U.S. A. trip as we had some "issues" in my neck of the woods and our trip became a question mark. However, now that things are MUCH better, we quickly made plans and got back to daily routine(daily routines are a blessing!)

I will be in Madison on July 10th if anyone happens to be nearby!

Anyway, my hubby will be joining my daughter and I in Madison on Aug 1st. After a few days of jetlag, we will fly out to Orlando. This is my daughter's hightlight of the trip. We will be there Aug-5-11th. This is the only date that worked out for all of us as we return home soon after.

So close-and yet so far!!! One day, I know I will meet at least some of my friends here on egullet.

I apologize to those of you who were in touch with me- for taking forever to make plans.

Enjoy yourselves!

Here's a nice little article from today's The Grand Rapids Press about the Kerrytown neighborhood, where I suspect we'll be doing most of our Feast-related shopping. It's home to Kerrytown Market & Shops, Zingerman's Deli, and the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

Well - I'm glad to hear things have sorted themselves out at home.

I'm disappointed we won't get to meet you in person - but the day will come! Perhaps it's time for a trip to Israel!
