Marco's , Hells Kitchen

Recommended Posts

MPW is on a programme that's airing in the US at the moment. Its call"Choping Block" Its based on "The Restaurant" where couples battle to win their own restaurant.

The format is slightly different in the US version. Its absolutely awful and MPW is amazingly bad in it. He just points at the camera coming out with all type of rubbish.

To be fair, Marco on UK TV has been very enjoyable (historically at least) and by the sound of things, quite different to the US persona. From the little I've seen of Ramsay's US Kitchen Nightmares, I think the same can be said there.

In any case, I'm looking forward to this new series of Hell's Kitchen immensely!

At this very moment I'm looking at a photo of him whilst I cook his version of Bread and Butter Pudding from Canteen Cuisine,Marco Pierre White.

I bought this book, god knows how long ago, when he was in partnership with Michael Caine at their Michelin starred London restaurant, Canteen.

As with the last series, looking forward to MPW masterclasses a lot.The celebs don't interest me apart from Ade Edmundson, who , for no reason whatsoever, will shine as a chef.

I'll tell you what Bas,

I wish I had a quid for every Chef or cook that he has influenced

"I can't work in a domestic kitchen; its just too confined.

There's no freedom and there's no buzz.

At home I'm not hit with forty covers in half an hour so there's no real excitement"

"A lot of people say I look like a rock star or a designer punk.

But I swear it's the job that has carved my face.

Its the hours, the stress, and the pressure.

Its not me trying to look like this"

not for some time, surely?

Bit of early Marco, (circa 1990)

Notice The Foul Mouthed One in the background.

Female (and Male) found him very appealing

and Richard Neat, I think?

I missed Richard Neat.

Met him outside Pied A Terre, as we were leaving, bout 11 ish I think.

He had just finished service

He was on his way to Paris to work in some other top chefs kitchen,( Robuchon?)

What a talent he was

He had a reputation of being a bit of a nutter

Aiden Byrne used to work with him , and tells a wonderful story of him (Neat) losing it with a burly kitchen porter.

Seems that service that night was tense and the porter was on the end of a string of expletives, took great offence, and knocked him out with one punch.

They had to walk over him to get the food out!

Those were the days eh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder where he is now?

The Paris place he went to was Jamin (sent by Raymond Blanc), but that was before Pied a Terre. When we opened Neat in Cannes in 1999, Robuchon came down and did the opening ceremony.

After Cannes and the debacle that was Neat London, he went to Moscow, then Marrakech where he and his wife had a Riad (sp?) where they did food blending his French cooking techniques with Moroccan influences - must have been interesting.

Then he suddenly disappeared to Costa Rica. Don't know what his current plans are.

David, you may not have joined EG at the point where I posted the Marco videos:

Marco

Thanks for that Matthew, it was slightly before my joining , shame we can't merge the two!

Mind you hopefully now any other Marco fans will click to watch.

These videos are historic gems, to be savoured by all.

They do however lay open the glaringly obvious advancement of age we all have to cope with.

Bet the young foodies are shocked at how young and fresh he looked back then!

Anyone see last night's episode?

Marco is hamming it up like a seasoned thesp, although seems to be genuinely terrifying the slebs which is nice. Apart from Ade Edmondson and Grobelaar, the others are truly weak and I think that smarmy git Bovey is well on his way to a slap.

Unfortunately, I think the Americanisation of food shows means that food will play very little part in the series. I expect a sub plot/romance between the slebs, but absolutely no focus on the actual cooking. Which is a gross waste of MPW's talents, in my opinion.

MPW has been wasting his cooking talent for years. Doing pretty well on the business side these days though. Nice sponsorship slot for K-norr too.

Indeed, it's a crying shame.

But is the UK audience so simple minded that all we demand in a food based show is flashy camera work and clever editing? I'm sure that a large percentage of the audience are tuning in because they have an interest in food.

It's patronising that TV companies think otherwise - you only have to look at food shows in the states to see where the inevitable slippery slope leads to.

Ooh, you lucky Lancastrians are in for a treat(not).

As Jody Latham has announced that he's soon to open a gastropub.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...-gastropub.html

Any thoughts on Maitre d Nicks treatment of the clientele last night?
