How Much Liquor for a NY Eve Party

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow eGulleters....

We are having a party for 40 people for New Year's Eve. Having it catered, but for the alcohol (and soft drinks/water) we decided to buy it ourselves as it will be a lot cheaper than buying through the caterer. We thought we would have: Caipirinhas (the 'house drink' as the theme will be a churrascaria), martinis (gin and vodka), rum based cocktails, beer, and wine/champagne.

Any guidance on quantities of the spirits and champagne, in particular?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP; I could really use it!

Reckon 4 drinks/head

8 glasses to the bottle (if mean) 5 if generous.

Provide a non-alcoholic alternative for those who need to drive etc

One formula I've heard is to allow 2 drinks per guest for the first hour and another drink per hour after that. You'd want to adjust that for martinis and caipirinhas though, I'd think, but water/juice/soda would help fill in the blanks.

Basic rules

40 guests = 40 bottles of hard liquor.

Start them on wines and beer.

You can toss in fufu stuff, but, for New Years, figure one bottle of pain killer per head.

So, hit them with something sparkling. By midnight, they won't recognize Krystal.

If anyone's still conscious, bash them over the head with good quality tequila. That'll finish them off, and they'll remember it was good.

:)
