Lunch in Hackensack

I've only been to a handful of diners in the two years I lived in Hackensack, and only Coach House (at 4 Hackensack Avenue) was worth going to more than once. Not fabulously delicious food or great service, but better than most diners. The portions are as big as advertised, and they have several televisions scattered around, which came in handy for Yankee games. I'm sure someone can come up with a better option, though.

I've been reading about many different types of food on Main St....are there any E-gulleters who can give a quick run down of what's available? I know there are a few soul food, Caribbean, and Latin places. Where are they, and which ones are the best?

Off tomorrow for lunch in Hackensack.  I know Greek Island Grill is at 77 Main St., Hackensack but have never been...Thai, and Cuban.  Any other ideas..any good diners?

Thank you.

Joana

How odd, we were just at Greek Island Grill on Monday - jury duty. It was very good, but be warned that the grilled Greek sausage (which was excellent) takes FOREVER. They could see that we were getting so impatient that they comped us a plate of revithosalata, which was a very nice gesture.

Everybody else in the place got served promptly so there was probably something special about the sausage, or we just had bad luck. Either way, they handled the delay well, I don't hold it against them, & we'll likely be back.

You know about Wondee's for Thai, of course, right?

Thank God for tea! What would the world do without tea? How did it exist? I am glad I was not born before tea!

There's also a good columbian bakery shop on Main Street between Berry & Passaic St. accross the street from Olympus Gym & Domino's. I forget the name.

Good Eats!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Timely thread. My office is in Paramus and I always have trouble in Hackensack. Other than Miyoshi, all the places up and down, off of, etc. Main St. are just that -- places. Any of them really good?

I have a lunch meeting next week in Hackensack and I am looking for something good -- not too loud, not messy, etc.

Thanks.

Eric

Agreed. I haven't been there in a while, but I'd go to Wondees. It's nothing fancy to look at, but the food is fantastic.

Didn't really know about this place -- thank you. Looks like a place to try.

Maybe a trial run, LOL.
