Junk Food Jones

Jamie Lee

Recommended Posts

I don't "do" junk food... I just don't. But now I'm coming off chemo, and DAMN, I want every flavor, style and cheesy taste of junk food!

My list:

Toaster Strudels

Twinkies (I like mine frozen) <--- childhood memory

Hot Dogs, on white buns, with yellow mustard

Reeses P-Nut butter cups

Frozen Chicken Pot Pie

Swanson TV Dinners (any flavor)

Almond Joy candy bars

Bologna and American cheese sandwich on Wonder Bread (with butter AND mayo!)

Cinnamon Toast (Tons of butter and suger)

Hostess Cupcakes (With the swirrly white icing)

Cheese in a Can, sprayed on Ritz Crackers

Salami, pan-fried in a skillet

I could go on and on!

What are your junk food joneses?

Your body is telling you what it needs, feed it! Bob's potato chips and hot bean dip, beef jerky, Wint-o-Green Lifesavers, M&Ms, Zapp's spicy tomato flavored potato chips. If I get my hands on a bag of pistachios, I'll eat them until I finish the bag. Not really a junk food but if I make pico de gallo, I'll more than likely eat it right from the bowl before I get a chance to put it on anything. About once a year, I'll go get a bunch of Jack-in-the-Box's tacos, you know the ones with the greasy emulsified meat product soaking through the shell. I dump a bunch of their taco sauce on them and munch happily away.

Once a month, I must have cake (flavor does not matter). Nothing but actual cake will do. Sadly, my boyfriend made the connection before I did... :)

That was TMI, wasn't it?

Other than that, my regular junkfood cravings are for Kopps burgers (Milwaukee) or El Rey flautas and beans (also Milwaukee).

Chili/cheese fries with onions, fries well done. The world's most perfect junk food......nutritionally balanced, you have protein, starch, dairy, veg (from the onions) and God knows your RDA of grease for the next 30 years or so.

Nachos. Really good nachos. Where the chips are crispy all the way through, but still sorta soft and chewey in spots. With frijoles, jalapenos, tomatoes, scallions, guac and really bad black olives. And cheese. Lots and LOTS of cheese. No meat/chicken/misc. protein please. Oh sour cream on top, after it all comes out from the broiler, is a must.

I have a weakness for french fries, without which I would perish. Doritos with that super bad-breath powder is a must. Bridge mixture shows up in our house - once a month if you know what I mean.

Hope you feel better with your "expanded menu"!

You started this share session at just the right time, Jamie.

On the way back home from what I thought would be a job interview but turned out to be a networking interview (the woman who heads Swarthmore's communications office remembers me from when we both worked at Penn, in different offices), I got this powerful jones for a McDonald's cheeseburger after I reported losing my TrailPass  at SEPTA customer service.

I'm still kicking myself for leaving my monthly pass on the train, but I feel better now that I fed the beast for only a buck. (Double cheeseburger off the dollar menu.)

This should be good for the next six months or so.

Chili on pretty much anything... burgers, hot dogs, rice, fries, baked potatoes, chili mac... just no beans please.

Funyuns, Chili Cheese Fritos,or Calbee Shrimp Chips

the 99 cent chicken sandwiches, curly fries and sourdough jacks at Jack N the Box

Hey! The Calbee single serving bag (1 oz) has 2 grams of protein and contains actual shrimp- practically health food~~

As for Jack N the Box- I think the Spicy Chicken sandwich is like a great schnitzel on a bun- willing to do a taste off....
