Zona Rosa on a Saturday Night

My hotel is actually just a couple blocks from the British and American Embassies. Any suggestions for a place for a late - i.e. probably after 8 or 9 PM - dinner on a Saturday night. There will probably be 3-6 people, we can walk or cab it. Most of us have been in D.F. multiple times, but not necessarily in this particular location.

I'm sure as we're having drinks the subject of "where do you want to eat" will come up. I'd perfer to have a suggestion and not have to settle for pot luck.

Well, depends on how far your willing to travel. Remember the big meal is "comida" and there are less options in the evening. You're best bet would be the large hotels, like the Camino Real on Mariano Escabedo which recently opened Maria Bonita, serving Mexican cuisine until midnight, http://www.caminoreal.com/mexico/popup/menu-bonita.html for the menu.

If you want someplace you can walk to I suggest Fonda El Refugio, Liverpool 166, in the Zona Rosa. tel 5525 8128. It is charming; it caters to foreigners, but not exclusively, and the food is very good, many Mexican classics done right.

Close to Zona Rosa, on the other side of Reforma is Bistrot Arlequin

Río Nilo #42, Cuauhtemoctel. 5207-5616. It is not Mexican, but the food is excellent.

If you are going to get into a taxi, though, you might as well go to Polanco and try one of the higher end places there: el Bajio, Aguila y Sol, Izote etc.

PS - "8 or 9" is not a late dinner in Mexico....places that serve "cena" don't start filling up until after 9, so don't worry.

Yeah, I know, but when you've had to get up really, really early to travel almost all day, it's late

We've already got reservations for Aguilar y Sol later on in the week. I wasn't exactly wowed by Izote when I was there but that could have just been the luck of the draw and an off night. El Refugio has already been suggested and is a strong possibility.

I strongly suspect how far afield we actually get Saturday night is going to be directly proportional to how tired all of us are from flying.
