WTN: 1991 Penfolds Magill Estate

Complex and well endowed, this excellent shiraz has a rich and vibrant bouquet of sandalwood, sour cherry and a hint of spice with traces of redcurrant. The palate is searingly intense and plush, framed by well integrated buttery oak, with redcurrant coming through very dominant on entry and with layers of chocolate, plum and coffee lingering on the finish. This seemingly youthful shiraz is still quite closed and would benefit from at least 5 more years in the cellar.

Opened a bottle of this around a month ago. Makes a very interesting style contrast to the rest of the Penfolds range.

Yes it does. As you are probably aware, the vineyard for this wine is in Metropolitan Adelaide, surrounded by housing on all sides and in the past has contributed to many of the early vintages of Penfolds Grange. This wine is the only single vineyard wine in the Penfolds stable.

Cheers
