Candy Pads

I can't seem to find brown candy pads on the internet. I know they must be out there... does anyone have a resource?

Very good question. I've asked this question to several of the big American manufacturers & distributers and the answer seems to be...nobody does that here. They all can handle gold, white, or custom printed tops on your candy pads...but first, custom is expensive, and second...absolutely nobody has the facilities to do the wavy interior layers in brown. You can get them (such as through Glerup Revere), but they are importing them from France.

If anyone can prove me wrong (and for me the real big deal is the interior layers, not just the tops)...I'd love to hear it. Mean time, I've gotten the same story from many guys who've been in the business here for 20+ years. Of course, if anyone has a supplier for stock brown throughout pads in Europe who'll deal in small quantities, that would be nice to know too...I've never really looked.

Try Murnane Specialties in Illinois (708) 449-1200. They really are the candy pad specialists and will do orders as small as 1000 in a lot. They don't take credit cards though so you'll need to send a check prior to them shipping your order. The ones I've ordered through them are 5-ply white on one side and chocolate on the other.

YEAH!!! This company looks like it may be the one. I just ordered some samples. Thanks so much for solving this mystery.

I've ordered from Murnane and they were able to make a 5 ply with brown on both sides but the interior is still white. It's a nice pad, but a bit pricey (0.20 each for a 4 x 4 box). Although I have no idea how this price stacks up against other manufacturers since I haven't found any (except for the guys below), it just seemed like a lot of money for a pad (add that to the box, the glassine, the satin ribbon, the ingredient label, the insert, candy cups if you use them, legend, marketing etc. and you end up with packaging at $3...)

Anyway, I digress, Fabrice from "Qualita Paper" once told me he has large 5 ply brown on brown pads that he will cut to any size. The pads are 39"x27" and there are 90 pads in a box for about $800.- (this is back in 2005.) Their price for a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 pad came to about $0.40 each. You could try them if you want as well. I think they made Paillard's pads if I remember correctly.

I'll check them out as well. Thanks for the post.

This sounds interesting...I'll try contacting Qualita. Meanwhile, I've dealt with both Chocolat-Chocolat and Murnane for years, and I know they don't have brown throughout for the interior of their pads. In fact, I've been to Murnane (they're local for me) and they count among the years-of-experience manufacturers who've told me they don't know of anyone in the US who makes it.

".... they don't know of anyone in the US who makes it."

If I remember correctly, I believe Fabrice said that they import the pads from France.

BTW rraaflaub - I love your site, I just saw it for the first time today. Your chocolates looked so good I had to order some right away.

Could someone explain to an innocent bystander what a candy pad is?

Look here, Dave, and I think they will explain themselves.
