  1. We bought one that looks like this one from Costco for about 40 bucks last summer. It's great. We have garbage pick-up every two weeks and one bag in this trash can easily holds two weeks worth of garbage. We have an excellent green bin and recycling program in Toronto so your mileage may vary. Our house cleaner usually presses the buttons and disengages the sensors. It's just one press of a button to re-set and the motion sensors are back in business. My friends kids and some grown ups have fun with it
  2. A co-worker told me about The Healthy Butcher so I went shopping there a few weeks ago. I was like a kid in a candy store in there. They opened in March but their Grand Opening is this weekend. Their web site explains what they are all about better than I can. I’ve only been in their store once and that’s all it took for me to be a raving fan. I can’t buy enough meat to keep them in business so I’m looking for some help from my fellow e-gulleters.
  3. Indigo at Yonge & Eglinton December 4th at noon. Vancouver e-Gulleters rolled out the red carpet for him. Are there any plans to do the same here? We’re the Center of the Universe Are we going to let them outdo us?
  4. Cuisinart has a new multifunction panini/grill/griddle that looks great. Unfortunately it's not available in Canada yet
  5. My shopping list is on my PDA. I'm a big fan of HandyShopper, a great freeware program for the Palm. I'm really screwed if I leave my shopping list in the grocery cart though
  6. Thanks Marlene and kpurvis! I'll take the Little Dipper out of the garage sale box and try some of your great ideas. eGullet is great, I learn something new every day
  7. I have one of those little ones and only used once. I don't think the picture conveys just how small it is, it only has about a 1½ cup capacity. The instructions say "The Little Dipper is designed for heating and holding your favourite dip or fondue at the perfect serving temperature". I don't think it would be any good for much else.
  8. I cheated and opened a Christmas gift today, Larousse Gastronomique from my husbands business partner. Last year I received a Fanny Farmer paperback cookbook from him. Not sure if that means I pissed him off more or less this year. I know I'll have a few more to add to your quest for 55,000 once Santa visits.
  9. I hope you don't mind a newbie jumping in to give her 2¢ worth here. The Sherry Vinaigrette dressing from the Bitter Greens with Seasonal Fruits recipe is fabulous! I don't care for fruit in my salad so just make the vinaigrette and toss it with whatever lettuce looks good at the grocery store. It's our favourite salad dressing, I make it at least twice a week. I hope you don't pass it by because of the fruit. I've read all the posts in this thread now and would like to try to play along if I can. I made the Boeuf Bourguignon this weekend from Food & Wine magazine. Give me some catch up time and I'll be up to speed to try whatever comes next, I hope.
  10. I don't know if they have what you're looking for but Arva Flour Mills is worth a try. It's a great little family-run flour mill just outside of London, Ontario. I buy my flour and baking supplies from their store but they also do mail order.
  11. 257 visible in my cookbook bookcase. I'm too lazy to fish out the ones that fell behind in the bookcase or count the ones that aren't where they're supposed to be and figure out how many I've lent to friends that will never be returned.
  12. Bad news about Katzenjammer's Deli Chef Fowke. I was in London for Thanksgiving dinner last night so tried to pick up some of their mustard for your great experiment. Their neon sign is dark, the doors are locked, the place is empty and their phone is out of service. Looks like they went out of business.
