I bought these at Target yesterday.  Java Chip flavor.

     IMG_3683.thumb.jpeg.ed5b1a9c2d46a881c73b01bc2e5d9d9a.jpeg

I thought they were pretty good.  The chocolate cookie is the dominant flavor but you can certainly taste the coffee, too. Note that it says there are "chocolatey chips" in the coffee creme, NOT actual chocolate chips.  Since they're about the size of a grain of salt, I was't really expecting actual chocolate chips.

The amount of filling seemed kind of random.  Some had a lot, others much less.  Maybe those pesky chocolatey chips plug up the creme dispenser? 🙃

I read some reviews that seemed to think these weren't sweet enough.  I disagree.

Thanks for highlighting these. I bought some and enjoyed them with my morning coffee which is sort of redundant since they're coffee-flavored. But good! :)

Funny thing is when I went back to my Walmart Grocery store the next week, they were completely sold out. Or just not stocked (Walmart is famous for not stocking items).¬¬

  2. In Canada:

"Olymel S.E.C./L.P. Recalls Ready-to-Eat Ham Products Due to Possible Salmonella Enteritidis Contamination"

    Quote

Olymel S.E.C./L.P., a Quebec, Canada establishment, is recalling approximately 6,804 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) ham products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The ham items were packaged on November 5, 2020...

There's a link in the second paragraph that will reveal the product label.

The article contains product specifics info.

  3. Some finds from this morning's perusal...

It's like trying to find Waldo in the "Where's Waldo?" books...

Another William-Sonoma cookbook where it's not advertised as such. But when you use the "Look Inside" feature you see their name/logo on the first few pages. Again, just an odd thing...
"The Breakfast Bible: 100+ Favorite Recipes to Start the Day" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)
Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the index of recipes.
Looks like both Metric and Imperial measurements.

"Small Bites: Skewers, Sliders, and Other Party Eats" Kindle Edition $1.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)
Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes.

"Sheet Pan: Delicious Recipes for Hands-Off Meals" Kindle Edition $1.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)
There is a recipe for "MUSHROOM & GRUYÈRE TART WITH HAZELNUT HARICOTS VERTS" on this cookbook's Amazon info page.
Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes.

  4. "Mt. Olive Pickle Company Debuts Pickle Salsa and Dill Pickle Brine 'Juicers'"

    Quote

Mt. Olive's new Pickle Salsa is available in three varieties—mild, medium, and hot— and can be purchased nationwide at grocery stores such as Albertsons, Safeway, Ingles, Harris Teeter, Food City, Publix, and more.
...Mt. Olive has also announced the debut of Pickle Juicers, a marinade or cocktail ingredient (or, for the brine enthusiasts, a straight sipper to gulp on its own) made from the company's 100% Kosher Dill Pickle Brine.

I'm not too sure about the salsa. The photo of the pickle salsa in the article looks a little too juicy/wet for dipping tortilla chips into it. Most salsas have more of a thickness to the sauce which helps it stay on the chip.

If anyone spies either of these products in their local grocery stores, please take one for the team.

  5. An absurdly stupid question about this display of fully cooked packaged bacon:

    65695922_BaconcookeddisplayF.jpg.0e4a63a098b92720e318539708bc60fd.jpg

Why aren't these packages being refrigerated?

I took this photo at a local VONS grocery store and have seen the same sort of non-refrigerated display of fully cooked bacon at the local Walmart Grocery store.

Just because they're boxes of fully cooked bacon doesn't mean they can just sit on a store shelf at room temperature, can it?

    It's cooked bacon.

Won't it go bad without being refrigerated?

It's not like the bacon is hermetically sealed inside either, or vacuum-packed. I've seen my sister-in-law open a package of Oscar Meyer Fully Cooked Bacon and the bacon isn't in air-tight packaging.

    What's going on here?

  6. "FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Raw Ground Turkey Products Linked to Salmonella Hadar Illness"

    Quote

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for approximately 211,406 pounds of raw ground turkey products, produced by Plainville Brands, LLC, a Pennsylvania establishment, due to concerns the products may have caused Salmonella Hadar illness. A recall was not requested because it is believed that the products are no longer available for consumers to purchase.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Retail locations that may receive returned product from consumers should destroy this product immediately.

Specific product codes, etc., are listed in the article.

  7. Three (or is it two?) cookbooks from the Williams-Sonoma line found this afternoon:

"One Pot of the Day: 365 Recipes for Every Day of the Year (Williams-Sonoma)" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)
Use the "Look Inside" feature to see recipes.
Looks like measurements are Metric and Imperial.

"Vegetable of the Day: 365 Recipes for Every Day of the Year (Williams-Sonoma)" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)

Use the "Look Inside" feature to see recipes.
Looks like measurements are Metric and Imperial.

For some unknown reason, they didn't use the Williams-Sonoma name with the next cookbook like they did in the titles of the above two cookbooks.

Yet, if you use the "Look Inside" feature, there it is in the opening pages of this cookbook. Odd.

"Everyday Slow Cooking: Modern Recipes for Delicious Meals" Kindle Edition $2.99US (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)
Use the "Look Inside" feature to see recipes.
Looks like measurements are Metric and Imperial.

  8. "Ketchup shortage hits restaurants, fast food chains across the U.S."

    Quote

Prices for ketchup packets have gone up 13% since January 2020, according to data from Plate IQ, a restaurant industry technology platform, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. A shortage of America’s favorite condiment is the latest to hit the foodservice industry amid an increased demand for takeout amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

I can see why this happened what with the line of cars at every fast food drive-thru as I drive past them. Don't people cook anymore? :S

The article also mentions the shortage of pepperoni because apparently everyone and their mother was ordering pizza during the pandemic.

I believe I did hear about the aluminum can shortage. Perhaps the customers should consider buying their libations in bottles as an alternative.

Back to the ketchup...the shortage seems to be just in the restaurant packets. Thank goodness my three jugs 'o' ketchup I buy at Costco seems untouched by the shortage. xD

    ...a Chicken Wire Garden...

...Iguanas ?   might chew right through it.

I think chicken wire may have too large of openings to protect the garden from iguanas. Some could easily slip through.

Which is why I think the netting/mesh would be a better option to protect the plants.

  10. Just Oregon, I believe:

"FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Raw Ground Chorizo Sausage Products Due to Possible Foreign Matter Contamination"

    Quote

The fresh and frozen raw ground chorizo sausage items were produced on March 8, 2021 by Century Oak Packing Company, an establishment in Mt. Angel, Ore. The following product is subject to the public health alert:

1-lb. packages containing “Lonely Lane Farms Family Farm Since 1939 OREGON RAISED Chorizo Sausage” and product ID 21067-6.
The products bear establishment number “EST. M40256” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold at a farmer’s market and also shipped to retail locations in Oregon.

  11. Got a small Smithfield ham from Walmart for my Easter dinner (and leftovers for the days afterwards).

Served with rice and oven-roasted asparagus (a la Roasted Cauliflower) which was just a delivery system for the melted parmesan cheese I showered over the roasted spears. xD

  12. Two new Limited Edition doughnuts at Krispy Kreme:

"Krispy Kreme Has An All-New Oreo Glaze And This Is The Best News We've Heard All Year"

    Quote

The Oreo Glazed Donut is covered in the Oreo Cookie Glaze, filled with Cookies and Kreme, and finished off with an icing drizzle and cookie pieces. Meanwhile, the Oreo Cookie Over-The-Top Donut is a cookie glazed donut with Cookies and Kreme filling, drizzled with chocolate icing and finished off with an Oreo cookie wafer.

There's a photo of the doughnuts in the article. They certainly look decadent.

Anyone willing to take one for the team and try these new doughnuts? Please report back.

Now that I look at it again, the chicken thigh has a bit of an orange tone, and if I look hard, I see an orange cast to the rice. I did not think "orange" until you said it, though.

Yes, this. The peas look very green...no orange tint on them. The chicken, quite orange...reminded me of Butter Chicken. And the white rice definitely has an orange tone in the shadows.

no wine though.   TJ's for that , eventually when my stock runs low.

Do you mean no wine was being sold? My Aldi's does have a wine section. Not as impressive as TJ's but at least they had some.

Or did you mean Aldi's did have wine, but that you go to TJ's for that?

So question on the deviled eggs. I love them. But I grew up thinking the dyed eggs were unsafe to eat because they'd been sitting out for a couple of days on the table. Is that true, or can I actually use them instead of wasting them this year?

Boiled eggs shouldn't be out of the refrigerator longer than 2 hours. It's a food safety issue.

If they have been out for days, I wouldn't recommend eating them.

Here's the URL for those who can't stream the video: https://youtu.be/lTskUfIihXU

I had a silly thought when I saw the pasta shape.

It sort of looks like a retainer for your teeth, or one of those "night guards" that prevent teeth grinding as you sleep. File that under "You know you're old when..." xD

If anyone takes one for the team and tries the new pasta shape, please report back.

  18. "Sabra Hummus Recalled Over Salmonella Risk: How to Check If You're Affected"

    Quote

Sabra has issued a voluntary recall of some of its Classic Hummus packages over a possible salmonella risk, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday.

The voluntary recall affects approximately 2,100 cases of its 10-ounce Classic Hummus, after a routine screening from the FDA discovered a potential risk within a single tub of the product. So far, there have been no reported cases of illness or consumer complaints related to the recall, the agency said.

The Classic Hummus tubs were distributed to Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

The highlights of states impacted by the recall are from me.

See the article for specific hummus product info.

  21. Reviving this ancient discussion...

Bacon jumped the proverbial shark a long time ago.

Now Oscar Meyer is offering bacon-scented shoelaces.O.o

"Oscar Mayer Is Releasing Bacon-Scented Shoelaces In Case You Need That In Your Life"

    Quote

The Oscar Mayer shoelaces are scented using actual Oscar Mayer Hardwood Smoked Bacon, so the smell is guaranteed to be right on the nose. Pun intended. Similar to any good sneaker drop, these shoelaces will be super exclusive, so if you want a pair for yourself, you'll have to test your luck.

Winning the shoelaces involves hashtags...see the article for the particulars.

The thing about these shoelaces is they're too far away from my nose.

Why not make a bacon-scented necktie or hat or necklace? At least those are near your head where you can enjoy the bacon aroma.

The marketers missed the mark on this one.
