  1. I have read the book and it has definitly had an affect on my eating habits. Since reading the book around a year ago, I have not eaten at a fast food restaurant of any kind. Except maybe a pizza parlor. I have also tried to explain to my two girls ages 7 and 10 , why places like McDonalds are not a good thing. Why it hasn`t had a major influence on more individuals, I think that most people don`t change their habits drastically unless it hits home on a personel level. It`s one thing reading in the paper about a food recall at a local food store and it`s another thing for your child too get violently sick from it. I think to many people have to be hit in the head with a hammer before taking preventative measures. About a month after reading Fast food Nation, there was a story in the paper about a beef recall being done. This article basically repeated verbatim what Schlosser had said. That there was no need to worry and that a small amount of meat might have gotten infected, I was amazed how quckly the article switched from a bad meat recall to the praising of the high quality and safety standards of the meat plant. How they use the most advanced technology available to keep your food safe from disease That article alone made me realize in an instant that most of what the book said was probably true.

  3. I agree with you , makes sense after reading up on the definition of birefringence. And yes i am a Father Ted fan
  4. I watch Good Eats now and then. Any examples of what he says that is wrong. Just curious
  5. Yes , I believe in Harold Mcgee`s On Food and Cooking. He says that due to white bread being enriched and completely digestible , alot more nutrition is obtained from it. Whole wheat breads dont break down as easily and alot of the nutrients go right out with the fiber.
  6. If you burn 3005 calories a day, you would loose eventually loose weight on both diets.
  7. You get most of your exercise by watching Fat guys wife pick apples? Pervert.
  8. Most apples have an average of about 200 calories a piece, I could easily eat 15 apples over the course of a day if that was my only source of food.
  9. So your saying eating 500 calories of lofat yogurt will make u loose weight, but eating 500 calories of ice cream won`t ? i really don`t believe what you eat makes a difference , it`s how much you eat of something. Eating 3000 calories worth of apples a day will make you fat if you only bur off 2000. Eating 1500 calories of bacon instead of the apples would cause you to loose weight.

True but how many do you think were there when Katherine was growing up. there. Not how many have popped up within the past 5 years.

I`ve heard of purchasing a grill yes. But going to the store to purchase a BBQ is not something I`ve heard of.

    Defining Barbecue

Yes because NC has too distinct types of BBQ. I believe in East NC they only use a vinigar based BBQ sauce, where as West NC they use a tomatoe based one. Each side will tell you only theirs is the only true BBQ.

If the get together was outside and the cooking was also to be done outside, ex on the grill. It was a BBQ.

I agree with Fatguy. Growing up in NJ I thought BBQ was anything cooked on the Weber. As I grew up and learned more and more about different foods I accepted the fact that what I had been doing all those years was grilling. I don`t argue about it. i accept the true meaning. Which I have come to understand as , cooking larger pieces of pork , using smoke from indirect heat , created from burning hard wood and keeping the tempature of the smoke between 200-215 degrees for as many hours as the meat requires to cook
