  1. 😂 😂 😂 I must’ve been reading / trying to think of something else and posting at the same time (or having some sort of medical event LOL) when I posted - forgive, please! I am starting the push for my Christmas baskets and reading / checking recipes / ingredients / etc and am a little frazzled 🤣

I am checking your link, though and it’s making me more frazzled 😂 ... but some good stuff there - I’ve always tried to spice up my cooking / baking (duh - like everyone, right? 😉 - a little smoked or sweet paprika in Peanut Butter Cookies or cc cookies etc - and Maangchi I’ve followed a long time - some recipes I still need a refresher on once in a while ...

Baklava - oh - that’s sounds so good! have not made that in a long time! After the basket rush, I may have to dig out the old recipe and do it again ... This is the time of year, I love to bake the most, I think ...

  2. I don’t know whether to laugh or like @heidih 😀 - totally understand not being able to sleep and baking in the middle of the night (how many times Mr Cat has woken up to the smell of baked goods!) ... but agree about Maragret’s Post - has me re-thinking some cookie’s planned for the weekend - and I don’t know whether to laugh / cry / be mad 😂 😉 ...

We had the other extreme with mine. She lived to be 93 (she was born in the portentous month of August 1914, as the world slid into catastrophe) but unfortunately was long gone into dementia by the time she passed. This may perhaps be why I'm not big on zombie flicks...watching the mortal remains of a loved one shuffling around aimlessly strikes a little close to home.

After caring for her for 20 years my mom was terribly concerned about going that way herself, but we're feeling easier on that point as time goes on and she exhibits no more than ordinary getting-older forgetfulness.

    I am terribly sorry about your Grandmother’s dementia :o( - that’s just - it’s never easy ...

I will say that I am always a little envious  of people who have their grandparents and parents who live and are part of their lives well into their 80’s 90’s ...

My Dad is alive and well (God bless him), but my mom was killed (car accident) when I was 30 ... Grandparents both sides - gone early teens or younger ... my favorite Aunt - thank goodness she’s not gone ...

Mr Cat still has his mom (he’s six years older than me) - his Dad passed only 2 years ago (dementia :o( ) ... he was mid-30’s? When his grandparents passed (I was stunned! I couldn’t even fathom - he couldn’t understand the flip-side of not having any) ...

I sat around in awe at holiday dinners with his family ... it just amazed me ...

I'm only a few years older, but I saw them in action regularly in my grandmother's kitchen.

My Gran moved away when I was only 11 years old then passed 2 years later! Thanks for reminding of such a horrible time! *runs crying from room* 😢😢😢 (😂😉) ... btw - the two events were not related - her moving away from me, then her untimely demise, God rest her soul) ...

My Gran, God love her, taught me to first bake - really instilled my love of baking - and all needlework I’ve done throughout my life ... Like most people - I still miss her   😁

  5. Unbelievable ... I’m talking to Mr Cat tonight - as he is eating - what else?! Banana Pudding! ...

I look at him and say, “Is that your co-workers’ banana pudding?”

    Mr Cat, “Yes.”

    Me: “You should be ashamed.”

Mr Cat: “I told ‘em you made it for ‘em and they weren’t getting any because I decided to keep it for myself ... “

    Me: “😲😲😲

    Mr Cat: (licking spoon) “Yep”

Me: “What is WRONG with you?!” 😲😲😳🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    I got nothin’, man ... nothin’ ... 😞

Funny you should ask.  Shredded for me, all the way.  And for the record I hate mildly dislike doing it by hand.  Recently I watched a Bosch video of mixer shredded chicken, but I never thought about the KitchenAid.  Thing is I worry about bits of stuff in my shredded chicken, so I shall probably continue to shred it manually.  There are worse things in life.

Due to dietary restrictions - I eat *a lot* of chicken ... probably 3-4 chickens a week (yes, 3-4 whole chickens a a week) ... I, too prefer hand shredded and have to be careful about getting all the fat off 🙄 ... there are no worse things in life 😂😂

  7. @dtremit were  you able to make your cranberry Jell-O salad?

I was just just wondering earlier in the thread if the addition of cream cheese in some of these Jell-O salads was a regional thing - seems to be prevalent in the South ... I was not remarking on anyone’s original recipe - or disparaging any classic recipes etc. 😁

If the cranberry sauce doesn't look like cranberry, it isn't.

Plate looks delicious! And cranberry looks like pomegranate...

  9. Ahh - no - I am not old enough to remember those Pyrex bowls 😂 - I am 50 yrs old ... 😁

My banana pudding is also “the real thing” - I make almost everything from scratch (I consider “from scratch” = homemade = not boxed / canned / pre-cooked etc.) ... once in a while I will succumb to convenience - but not often.

  10. Well, Wednesday - like most people I was doing a lot of make ahead / prep work ... I made my banana pudding - I shredded the cheeses for Mac N Cheese- cut onions - garlic etc (late that night I mixed up the meatloaf and put it in the fridge) ... felt weirdly done in the kitchen ... that couldn’t be all could it? Well, that was weird. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It felt super empty. So i made dinner 😁 (usually during times like this it’s fend for yourself) ... but Mr Cat had crispy braised chicken thighs and butter braised Brussels  sprouts ... no banana pudding - that’s for T-Day ...

T-Day was good - Mr Cat and Cat son thoroughly enjoyed ... after two meals and lunch packed for Friday - I weirdly have no leftovers 😲 (except banana pudding) ... the no leftover thing is just strange - I have a genetic problem that forces me to make enough food to feed a small battalion ... and we have no leftovers 😳😲 - except banana pudding ...

About the banana pudding - I made a huge amount of banana pudding (well, I *thought* it was huge) ... Mr Cat said he’d like to take a big dish of it to work with him ... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Okay - I’m already making it - what’s a double.5 batch, right? ...

Cat Son spends the night Wed - wakes up - has banana pudding for breakfast and feeds Mr Cat the same 😲🙄😳 ... they have T-Day  Lunch - dessert (more banana pudding) - dinner - then more banana pudding ... snack (more banana pudding) ... By this time - our dish of banana pudding is about 2/3 gone ...

I wake up the next day (Friday) - dish of banana pudding Mr Cat was supposed to take with him for everyone else? Still in our little fridge 🤦🏻‍♀️ ... So I ask about it when he gets home ... he has decided that sharing his banana pudding is no longer optimal. ... What??? 😳 - I cant even 🙄😳🤦🏻‍♀️😲😂 ... I’m gonna go stuff my pork loin ...

  11. Well, several days ago "my people" have completely changed plans and menu on me ...

    We're now having -

    Meatloaf (!!???) -

    Mashed potatoes (okay - that's Thanksgiving'y ~

    Brown Gravy for Mashed

Green beans with baby potatoes *very definitely belongs on the table* ~

Mac N Cheese (okay - nothing weird there - that's shown up a million times) -

    Banana Pudding ~ eh - I'll give it a pass, I guess ...

and Apple / Raisin Hand pies (!?) (I made them the other day - I guess they wanted more???)

Definitely not a "typical" Thanksgiving menu - but - who cares, I guess ... we are thankful every day ... at least I didn't already buy an enormous turkey or ham and the prime rib can go in the freezer ... although, I will miss the stock :/ ... maybe I'll buy a turkey anyway ... or two ...

Have not seen any new KitKats in these parts. However, my all-time favorite KitKat is the green tea one you can buy everywhere in Japan.

I see the Green Tea KitKat at H-Mart sometimes and pick them up for Cat Son - Cat Son is NOT a green tea fan ~ of course, given his heritage - I demanded he take a maternity test!  - but he does love these green tea KitKats LOVES THEM!

  13. Hi @dtremit

My mom in law is very fond of a similar lime-jello / cream cheese recipe ...

Well, I pulled out my mom-in-laws old Church club cook books and here is what I found - I hope it is in some way helpful ...

    "Christmas Cranberry Salad"

    1 Can Whole Cranberry Sauce

    16 Large Marshmallows

1 Small Can Crushed Pineapple (undrained) (you can sub Mandarin Oranges)

    1 (3oz) pkg Strawberry Jell-O

    1 (8oz) pkg Cream Cheese

    1/2 C Pecans, chopped

Melt Marshallows (medium heat) with crushed pineapple (oranges) and Jell-O.

When Marshmallows are melted, add the rest of ingredients.

    Chill.

I went looking on the internet for a similar recipe and found a similar one here at Taste of Home ~ they used heavy whipping cream instead of cream cheese and people subbed in Mandarin Oranges instead of (apples?, I think it was) ... I hope this is somewhat helpful and steers you more in the right direction.

    Good luck!

Sad, sad egg and cheddar sandwich. I did not make it. I bought it on vacation. The coffee shop was called Fuel and I guess it served that purpose.

  15. Growing up - man, I used to LOVE Pop-Tarts! LOVE THEM!!! We never got them ... we didn't eat stuff like that hardly ever - if I ever did get to eat them it was at a friends' house and that wasn't often ... my parents just didn't buy stuff like that ... no junk food, no canned food ... no frozen food (except the odd half gallon of Braum's ice cream a few times a year and the plethora of frozen Korean items that were decidedly NOT frozen "treats" ;o) ) - except for when my mom visited her mother / brothers  ~ then it was a veritable hey day!   xD

Back to Pop-Tarts ... Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon - that was my flavor of choice ... second best - Frosted Strawberry ... Pumpkin? I do not like all the pumpkin flavor stuff that comes out - I like using real pumpkin in stuff, ohmyyes!!! It's wonderful! Pumpkin coffee, cheerios, sausage, cornflakes, bagels, cinnamon rolls, egg nog, pretzels - oy vey ... no. Make your own? Different xD

  16. Well, I wasn't quite as motivated as Heidih ... the other day I made a little (and I mean little!) 3-layer 6" white cake with vanilla IMBC - it was so cute - so little! xD ... Mr Cat asked for a slice so I brought him a quarter of the cake - to me that was a slice :| ... when I brought it to him he looked at me like ¬¬O.o:shock: ... he took a quarter slice to work the next day and shared it with TWO other people :o ... well, that's what I get for thinking a quarter slice of a little tiny cake is one piece, I guess :| xD ... I also sent the same size slice to Cat Son ... he did not share

Can you say where the Signature brand is sold.  I mean main grocery stores only, like Sobey's or No Frills, FreshCo...  Ed, who does the shopping, thinks that Signature brand is FreshCo.

I believe the Singature brand for the recall is Signature Cafe - Target - Albertson’s - Tom Thumb, etc (I know Aldi’s was also mentioned in several stories I read) ...

The “salad with meat” they are referencing seems to be these (I’m not sure if I can describe it well, but here goes) - have you ever seen these pre-made (but not mixed) salads at the store? - Example - A ‘caeser’ Salad - greens on bottom - on top in a separate plastic housing - some chicken - a little shredded parm - some sliced hard boiled egg - and a baggie of dressing on top? ... I believe that’s what they are referring to in this recall for the “salad with meat” ...

Also sold at Walmart (maybe Target? under Marketside branding ..

If I’ve done this right This is the link to the US site with brand info (no store info sorry 😐
