  1. That could be neat. I teach Foods to middle school students this year, so they would probably get a kick out of that. Not too sure if my skills are up to snuff for folding the chocolate into a basket, let alone teach it, but maybe if I practice....
  2. Hi Mike, Hope you're still around these forums. I see you are in Calgary; me too. Just curious who your local dealer was? I'm thinking about getting a rational when I buy a new place (still a few years down the road) and it would be great to work with someone who's had experience installing one in a residential kitchen.
  3. Melted chocolate chips/butter; butter scotch pudding; and whipped cream.
  4. Jello pudding popsicle. Some *failed* attempts at shaping cheese cake batter.
  5. I’m not sure if they sell it anymore directly; it’s not listed on polyscience anymore. Only thing I have to worry about parts wise right now is the filter though and it will probably just be able to clean it according to instructions.
  6. Confirmed with my thermapen that it got down to -30f. Threw on some mayo just to do a quick test. Interesting texture. Think I’ll do some pudding tonight before testing more complex recipes.
  7. This has always been on my radar, but I never bit the bullet due to the cost. Found a used one on Facebook Marketplace and picked it up for $250 CAD…. I figured at that price it’s worth it for the experience alone. Came from a restaurant that went out of business Firing it up now. Will take a temperature shortly but it’s getting cold. What should I make first?
  8. Just preordered the two-probe option... was just going to get 1... but then I thought what the hey... It should be a fun today for the summer
  9. Just the recipe provided in the booklet; I'l have to try Lebovitz' in the near future.
  10. In the midst of writing a review just need a few more pics. Here’s some peach ice cream I made the other day. anyone pull their pints out after just 13 hours? Getting impatient haha. I’ve done 18 hours and been okay. I think my freezer is colder than most. I guess I could have thrown it outside. -30 today, my own blast freezer.
  11. Finally got some time to play around with this. Currently have the maple gelato recipe from the booklet in the fridge (first one I've made with egg yolks) Also a peach ice cream one (used dairy instead of almond cream) The 24 hour wait is painful haha
  12. Thanks. Initiating a price match. $10 is $10.
  13. Best Buy says they are available to ship still... I know a couple days ago they were sold out thought.
  14. Best Buy... I hummed and hawed the first time they were available and then they disappeared. I saw they were made available again today so I pulled the trigger. I'll go and see if there are any left...
  15. Well I caved and bought one. Should have it by next weekend.
  16. Y'all tempting me to buy this. Just spent a wad of cash on a new laptop... gotta slow down.
  17. So my brand new replacement Ooni Koda 12 arrives next week. It's a replacement for the defective unit I won in a contest.... Looking at these pictures, I'm tempted to sell it as "new" and then use the proceeds to get a Koda 16....... It just seems that with the l-shapped burner the Koda 16 is a no-brainer. What do you think?
  18. Looks like Ooni has agreed to exchange my defective unit Shipping out today, hopefully I will receive something before the end of the summer...
  19. Well my Koda 12 arrived; looks sleek. Having trouble with the ignition though. At first, I was able to get it turned on and stayed on for about 10 minutes. It went out with a very small gust of wind. Now the thing won’t stay lit. As soon as I let go of the control knob it goes out. Tried holding it down for 5 seconds and 30 seconds. No luck. Have the oven off and disconnected from the tank. Will try again in 5 minutes.
  20. Looks like I won a Ooni Koda 12 from our provincial Pork industry association... kind of a random prize but I remembered this thread here on eGullet! Can't wait to try it out... didn't know much about it, but some YouTubing makes me wish it was a 16 due to the L-Shaped burner..... but you can't complain about free, right?
  21. I get what your saying, but my current situation makes buying a house risky. Even if I’m able to maintain employment with my current employer, I could be placed anywhere in the city and I could be setting myself up for a terrible commute. Luckily my living arrangements right now add very affordable and I’m racking up the savings. So when I’m finally ready to buy I’ll have an even larger down payment saved up and this more options.
  22. I currently have an induction range and love it! If I were to stick with induction, I'd consider getting one of those "zoneless" ones..... but then again I own two Control Freaks so having a high end gas range might offer more options?
  23. Gutting and rebuilding can get expensive. I don’t mind making improvements to an existing kitchen, but it needs to meet some base criteria first.
  24. Hey folks, I’m about 1-2 years away from seriously considering buying first home. I have the down payment saved up but due to contract and political considerations, it’s best that I wait at least a year. I’m just curious if you were in my position, what would you be looking for in an “ideal kitchen”? The sky is the limit right now, but of course will have to converge on a few “must-haves”; unless I want to be a single person living in a massive house 😂 I recently discovered the concept of a “butler pantry” which has me intrigued. Very few houses on the local market have these, and they tend to be larger houses, but I like the ones with extended hidden away counter space. Considering I’m a single person and most houses in my ideal size (~1200 square feet) have less than ideal kitchens, expanding an existing kitchen into the dining room. Using the living room as a dining room. And having the “living room” in the basement. Although that would surely hurt resale.
