  1. Thanks for all the info. We'll be staying in Amalfi and I've read that we won't want to drive on the coast road in the dark after having had wine. La Caravella sounds like a good choice so I"m glad to get a favorable report.
  2. I'm travelling to the Amalfi coast in late March and wondered if anyone could provide restaurant recommendations.
  3. Although I watch the show every week, I'm really annoyed by Alpana Singh. Someone needs to tell her to speak naturally! Also, my opinion of her is colored by my experience dealing with her as the sommelier at Everest. She was snotty, inattentive and tried to sell us a sub-par bottle of wine. Once we got our wine we never saw her again and actually ended up pouring our own(which is sometimes OK, but not in a place like Everest). All those memories come back when I see her on my little screen.
  4. Barthelemy on rue de Grenelles in the 7th vacuum packs. I've purchased from both Barthelemy and Marie Anne Cantin and find Barthelemy superior. They do a much better job of selecting cheese that will withstand the trip. Also, Alain Dubois in the 17th does a fabulous job with cheese for travel.

    L'Affriole

There were four of us and we had arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation time. Was the hostess(the chef's wife) rude to you? I speak French, so that wasn't the issue with us.
  6. We were in Paris last week and ate at L'Absinthe. Great food at a reasonable price. The menu includes a number of comfort foods recrafted in a contemporary way. Good and reasonable wine list. The chef at Absinthe is the former sous chef at Rostang's gastronomique restaurant. I highly recommend L'Absinthe.
  7. We were in Paris last week and had made restaurant reservations in advance at several places, one of them being L'Affriole. When we arrived we were told that we couldn't be seated because the restaurant was "complet" for the evening. However, we were shown our name on the seating chart and it was acknowledged that we had made a reservation. We were treated very rudely and were given no reason for not being seated. Has anyone else had a bad experience there?
  8. I tried au pied de cochon and it was not as great as I would have imagined it to be. Any more suggestions? Thanks for everyone's help!
  9. I'll be travelling in the Dordogne next week(specifically small hotel in Sarlat le Caneda) and wonder if anyone has restaurant recommendations.
  10. Where is the best onion soup in Paris?
  11. Can anyone recommend a cafe in Paris that prepares great omelettes?(Preferably Left Bank)
