Nice old thread.
I am interested in finding New Mexico peppers around Seattle. I will check out the above places but this thread is one economic crash dated so could any one help refresh the sources for quality Mexican and Southwest ingredients around Seattle?
For this I am willing to travel from my N. Seattle location.
Thanks ahead of time.
Are you looking for the New Mexico chiles also known as Anaheims? If so, they are available at most grocery stores.

Are they local? I only see a listing for Mississippi.

Hello there! I just moved here from Arizona with my boyfriend who is from New York and has been craving NY Pizza since he moved from New York.. I have not seen any thing posted on here as of recently so just wondering if any one has found a place in the Seattle area pretty dang close to New York style pizza? If any one has a few suggestions I would love to hear them. I figured we'd go explore the city and stop by a few pizza shops (That sells by the big slice of course) on the way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
You might want to try Ballard Pizza Co. http://www.ballardpizzacompany.com/

Has anyone checked out Crumble and Flake, former member Neil Robertson's new bakery? It got a write-up in one of The Economist's blogs http://www.economist...use-advertising and it seems to be doing very very well.
I think I need to make a trip to Seattle soon!
I don't get up early enough to make it there before he sells out - however a very thoughtful person brought me a couple pastries to try. As expected they were fantastic.
Yes, you do need to come to Seattle!

Here's another friend who lives near Elliott Bay (the water, not the restaurant/book store!):
Etta's is in the Public Market and great for fish and sit in a booth and get the coconut pie also. Red Mill for burgers on Phinney Ridge. Piecora for pizza close to the Seattle
University. Monsoon, asian and local ingredients, really good on 19th on Capitol Hill across the street from Kingfish a place owned by black sisters with southern/soul food and no reservations, and kids can't be in big room where they have alcohol, so check out times and come in right when it opens so you can sit at a front table, gets
too hot and uncomfortable in the back. Great family photos and go check out the bathroom ! At night the trout and chicken is good and soup whenever and known for huge pieces
of cake and other big desserts. Tamarind Tree is a thai place in a funky mall at edge of chinatown. Dim sum in Chinatown. Lola's downtown is Greek and terribly busy right
at lunch and dinner so go a little off hours.
I'm ready to come visit now, too!
A correction to the above - Tamarind Tree is Vietnamese, not Thai.

That brisket looks amazing!
I'm looking forward to following along. I'm going to be in Richardson for a conference next month and I have one night on my own for dinner. Do you have any recommendations for me? Will you be blogging about it?

We will be car camping with a generator and Kold-draft machine.
Actually we will only be making cocktails on the first nights at each campsite. Second night will be for batched/bottled cocktails and the later nights we will be drinking wine.
Thank you for the help.
Okay, I seriously want to camp with you.

Murray has left Zig Zag and will be at Michael Mina's new place, RN74, when it opens later in June.
Vessel is now closed
Liberty Bar is great, Keith Waldbauer (mentioned in the Union listing below) is now co-owner
Union is now closed
Jamie Boudreau is no longer at Tini Bigs
littlemsfoodie wrote a great app on cocktails in Seattle called Seattle Cocktail Culture which will give you all the up-to-the-minute activity in the Seattle cocktail scene.
Thank you very much for the update. I just sent my friend the app.
Rob Roy any good?
It was mentioned in the Saunders+Hess NYT article.
Rob Roy is one of my favorite bars. It's dark and comfortable and serves fantastic cocktails. Wasn't that a cute article?!

Piggybacking on this question:
I will be in Seattle for a few days this July (on either side of an Alaska cruise) and would love to have some good cocktails while there. But since I will have the family in tow, I can't really go to bars. Are there any restaurants in Seattle which both serve excellent cocktails and will welcome a well-behaved, seafood-loving 8-year-old?
littlemsfoodie's app, mentioned above, has a filter for Hotel Bars. I checked it and there are some listed including Art Lounge at the Four Seasons and BOKA at Hotel 1000.

Murray works Tuesday through Friday at Zig Zag, though everyone there is a great bartender and you won't disappointed in the least. You should also consider as many of the following as possible:
Vessel - next door to 5th Ave Theater
Liberty Bar - on Capitol Hill
Union - Friday, Saturday, or Sunday when Keith Waldbauer is behind the bar
Can Can - go late if you're going to go Friday or Saturday, Sunday is a good day
Sun Liquor - also on Capitol Hill
Spur Gastropub - Belltown
Hazelwood - Ballard
Sambar - attached to Le Gourmand on the border between Phinney Ridge and Ballard
Tini Bigs - Monday-Wednesday Jamie Boudreau is there tending bar
These are all definitely more than worth checking out, and besides Zig Zag some are also on par with Death and Co, PDT, and Pegu. The others are not far behind.
Rocky
This list still good?
I'll need a cocktail in Seattle in August.

I need to rewatch the reunion show as I thought Elia was saying that, despite what Collicchio says, she went to Craftsteak twice and both times was told they serve only corn fed beef. Collicchio had previously stated they serve both grass and corn fed beef. Did I misunderstand that?

Thanks! Strange, I Googled before posting and came up with nothing. Not even a mention that Union closed. Very sad to see it go, but it's a sign of the times. Strange that it was closed for so long and not even a mention about it here. Another sign of the times...
How was France?
You remember we've moved elsewhere, right?

The Cook Local blog did a great summary of the area's CSA's. Click here for the info.

I went to the lunch at Tales that was put on by Piedmont Distillers and we tried both the Moonshine and the Cat Daddy - straight and then in cocktails. I wasn't in love with the Moonshine but I have to say - I loved Cat Daddy with it's cardamom undertones. I look forward to using it in cocktails.

I thought that was a totally ridiculous review. The most befuddling paragraph was
The new offerings from chef Franey are decidedly minimalist in form and reserved in flavor—though it was sometimes hard to tell whether it was by accident or design. Salad-like first courses arrive composed, not tossed: a trio of Hawaiian shrimp, with matching hearts of palm, notable for the briny funk of its fermenting daikon slivers; the inscrutable Kona Kompachi, three demitasse portions of minced yellowfin tuna mounded atop avocado slivers; cubed beets, glossy with olive oil and arranged by color into three piles, tasting exactly like… cubed beets.Seriously? You couldn't tell if it was by accident or by design? And it sounds like having the salads arrive composed as opposed to tossed was a bad thing. I feel bad for Canlis for having to go through this as they try and become the destination restaurant they could be.

They make deliveries to the Seattle area a couple of Saturdays a month. You order on the web site by the Monday before they deliver - pick the delivery location closest to you (I go for the one on Phinney Ridge) and then pick it up sometime during the allocated time. It's awesome! I haven't purchased meat at a grocery store since I started doing this.

I've been buying the jowl bacon from Thundering Hooves. It's fantastic and I highly recommend it.

But an actual new episode? Not that one they dragged out last year?
According to Bravo's web site, new episodes of Top Chef return January 7th
From what I can see, the holiday special was produced in 2007, so it's not a new one.

To get response, you'll probably need to post your request here.

pretty much anything from Gordo's on Shilshole; grab it and head down to the beach,
Rocky
I'm pretty sure Gordo's is closed and the new location of Paseo took over that space.

I had dinner at Andina a couple of weeks ago. It was a work function with a set menu served family style. Everything was good but my favorites were:
PIMIENTO PIQUILLO RELLENO piquillo peppers stuffed with cheese, quinoa and Serrano ham
QUINOTO DE HONGOS DE LA MONTAÑA grilled market fresh vegetables on a bed of golden beet and local mushroom “risotto” laced with truffle oil
And desserts! I'm not usually a dessert fan but these were awesome!
CANUTOS DE QUINOA Y MARACUYA crisp quinoa studded cannolis stuffed with passionfruit mousse, served with mango-lemongrass sorbet and caramel
ALFAJORES the classic Peruvian cookie, scented with key lime and filled with manjar blanco

Shiro's has long been considered the best sushi in Seattle. Kisaku and Sushi Kappo Tamura are also very good. Nishino is a nice place for a full Japanese meal, including sushi.
My favorite place for dim sum in the International District (the ID we call it) is Tea Garden. Jade Garden is great but the lines are long.
