  1. Princeton ? Hardly ! And Trenton ? A good meal there is one where you aren't mugged or your car stolen .
  2. Amarone's used to be Heinz' Gausthaus .
  3. Dutchmans Brauhaus on the mainland side of the causeway .
  4. Surprized no one mentioned Mie Thai in Woodbridge - right across from city hall in the strip mall.
  5. The Blue Ribbon - German place east of Times Sq on 44 or 45th st .
  6. There was also a Grunings in Plainfield . Also remember the Tico Taco " Mexican " restaurant on rte 22 in Greenbrook .
  7. White castle on rte 1 in Linden near the airport . Authentic grease !

Caffaro's pizza in New Brunswick The Tico Taco on rte 22 in Greenbrook ( decor early pawnshop - so cluttered I didn't realize they had a racing sulky hanging from the ceiling that I didn't see till my third or fourth visit . Gruning's in Plainfield with their belly buster ( eat one get one free , stomach pump optional Tompkins Ice Cream off rte 1 in Elizabeth ( think there was one in New Brunswick too Princes Bay Inn on Staten Island Mcginnis of Sheepshead Bay Seafood - northwest end of Times Square Coney Island rest. in Perth Amboy for the coney island dogs I think I may need some Maalox!!!
  9. Two great pizzerias in Trenton , both called De lorenzo's , one on Hamilton Ave .Conte's in Princeton is o.k. Sciortino's ( previosly in Perth Amboy ) now reopened in South Amboy used to be good - I haven't tried the new location yet . Strawberries in Woodbridge used to be good but I haven't been for 6 months . As for chains there is a new one in my neighborhood called Donato's - thin crust , good toppings but very greasy . Just tried another new local chain - Goodfella's - so bad that I threw the pie out after part of one slice .
  10. Try Sipo's Hungarian bakery on Smith street in Perth Amboy . It's under new owners but the filled rolled cookies are o.k. and the rye bread is decent . It's about 1/2 mile from Convery Blvd on the south side of the street and is hard to miss . Also try Bonbonniere on rte 27 in Edison , in a small shopping center across from the Pines restaurant .
  11. I think the Metuchen diner you mean is the Duchess . Never was very good .
  12. Re: The Americana Diner on rte 130 near Hightstown . The pancakes are also exceptional . As an aside don't bother going to Mastoris' Diner in Bordentown - large portions of mediocre food .

  14. Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank Dutchmans ( either Brauhaus or Hofbrauhaus - can't remember which ) on the causeway going out to Ship Bottom.
  15. There is an Amish market that operates thurs/fri/sat maybe wed on rte 27. It is on the northside before the rte 518 turnoff coming from New Brunswick and is in a derelict shopping center. No good landmarks nearby . I haven't been there for at least 6 months so am not sure its stll there.
