  1. The shipping to Canada is all in - courier, broker fees, GST etc. It's worth it unless you have a US address to ship to then pick up. Unfortunately, I have to report that taxes and fees were not included in the shipping price. I had to pay an extra 41$ on taxes and fees. The actual shipping cost was around 51$ so that's disappointing. Hopefully the quality of the product will make up for it.
  2. So I'm in Canada and I was ready to order the circulator for my birthday. However, shipping is more the 60$ so it killed my enthusiasm. I've tried to contact the company to see if it was possible to get a cheaper (slower) shipping option, but after sending 2 emails to 2 different adresses I've never received an answer. Now I'm a bit worried about customer service. Has anybody else ordered from Canada?
  3. Thank you for all your feedback. So is the general consensus that the SVM is the best device?
  4. Thanks for your replies. I like your design too tsp! Where did you get the enclosure? For me that would probably be the biggest challenge since I don't have the tools to cut plastic. I only have a "fuzzy logic" rice cooker and no crockpot so I figured out that since I have to buy something anyway, I might as well go with the better option (immersed heater).
  5. Thank you for your input. What do you mean by freeze-dried version? For me the biggest issue was that the Lucky Peach version calls for only 2.25kg chicken necks and not a lot of butchers will sell you that in bulk. I do not own one at the moment, but I was thinking that this recipe could be probably be sped up in a pressure cooker.
  6. Has anybody tried the ramen broth in both the cookbook and Lucky Peach? I read that the recipe published in Lucky Peach is "ramen 2.0" and that the goal was to streamline the process and cut down on cost. Does anybody know if there's a noticeable taste difference? Thanks.
  7. Hi, I'm putting together my first sous-vide setup. I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible but I'm wondering if there's a noticeable quality difference (in terms of durability and precision) between all the different controller options: - SousVideMagic 1500HD (170$) - Auber WS-1500ES (150$) - Dorkfood DSV (99$) - SideKic (I've read the thorough review on this board so I'm also including it here as an option since it's in the same price range.) - I also liked this design from a board member, but I'm not sure I would save much by putting it together: I'm planning on combining one of those controllers with a bucket heater and a pump. You're welcome to chime in if you can make a recommendation on the Electra heater (40$) vs the Norpro (7$). Should I just go for the cheaper options? Thanks.
