  1. So is there any rhyme or reason to dislikes of food? Recurring themes on this thread seem to be raw fish/cooked fish, shellfish, offal, fennel/anise, beets, brussel sprouts, others. And it's probably a given that people posting here are willing to *try* these foods. What's up?
  2. Oh my. I was the someone who suggested the thread. I'd better confess. I think offal is awful, except, of course, for my buttery chicken liver pate. I don't like raw fish, or seaweed. Maybe it brings back childhood memories, growing up at the beach, tumbled over in the waves, swallowing seawater, thinking maybe now's the time I drown. Raw meat makes me gag. There, that feels better.
  3. ...CWS writes very clearly, so it's pretty straightforward to extract these two pillars of his argument: (1) No one would want to eat something that tastes of pine. (2) Use of pine is not "real cuisine" and reflects the chef's "whim". There's nothing weird, unusual, or strange about eating pine nuts (pignoli), either. Pine nuts grow in pine cones, on pinon pine trees. And juniper (while not pine, but another resinous evergreen) is the basic flavoring in gin, as well as being used for seasoning game, etc.
  4. And what about the true classic...hamburger with ketchup?
  5. A note of levity, certainly not about topnotch exclusive dining, but definitely off the menu, as well as off the wall. Many years ago, at a breakfast place I frequented, my plate of poached eggs arrived with crusts of toast, the bready part torn off. I looked at it, then caught the server's eye. She came over. I pointed to the crusts, and I asked what it was. She laughed, and said, "well, we've noticed you always eat only the crust of your toast, so the chef thought you might enjoy it more this way." Liz
  6. I'm I'm not quite that discriminating; I don't limit myself to rum, I enjoy the search for all food and drink experiences. Rumster's right, Rhumba is great for tasting.
  7. Hi all, More from the north suburbs: Superior Liquors in Superior (Boulder County), northwest of Denver, at McCaslin exit of Hwy 36 (Boulder Turnpike). Good selection, including Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 year, Sea Wynde, J.Bally 1987, Mount Gay Extra Old, Cruzan Estate Single Barrel, Barbancourt estate reserve, much more. Lizzie
  8. Dan, I don't know of any place that has the rums you're dreaming of, but liquor mart in Boulder has a reasonable selection. They have a website www.liquormart.com. You can email them to find out. (Have you tried the big liquor stores, Argonaut on W.Colfax and Applejack in Wheatridge?) Lizzie
