  1. Thanks Julot. This is a good occasion to say that you got an awsome blog!
  2. Thanks Robert, I asked about Lasserre after I saw Julot's last review of Lasserre (BTW Julot - I absolutely agree with you regarding Eric Briffard - I'm a fan of him since the old Plaza Athenee days...). Are there any other opinions?
  3. Hello guys, I'm traveling to Paris next week, and my restaurants list is almost complete. My only hesitation is regarding one of my lunches: Robuchon or Lasserre. I know both restaurants are supposed to be great, but I'd like to know what is your favorite among them. Thanks in advance, Yossi
  4. Just a small commentary: they all arrived more than one hour after Lance Armstrong (said the proud runner that did a faster time than Lance in his first marathon ever...) BTW - are you doing the carbo depletion? In case you do, I don't envy you...
  5. Thanks: A great thank you for Markk. Faude was great. Superbe. The only thing I would upgrade in this restaurant were the deserts - which were good - but at the level of the rest of the meal. We toook the tasting menu accompanied by a Gewurz from Domaine Weinbach (cuvee Theo) which was an ultimate experience. Thanks for Winemike - Serge and Co was also a good restaurant - although not as good as the Faude. Our mistake was that we took there the tasting menu, which is not representative and not deep enough. I think that eating "a la carte" would have made us happier. My own recommendation for you is visiting Domaine Weinbach at Keysersberg (near Lapoutroie) - they make excellent Alsatian wine (esp. Gewurz) in reasonable prices (although the prices are not low). It is not far from the Faude. Chantal, the wife of the chef Thiery, who took us in guests - was very pleasnt and we had a long discussion about wines from all abroad France, and we promised to visit her again. She remebered you (=Markk) of course...
  6. What about "la vieille enseigne" at Strasbourg? Anyone has been there?
  7. Thanks to all for the reccomendations, more recs. are welcome.
  8. Forgot to say that the film deserve an oscar...
  9. Thanks Markk, the photos are superbe. Seems as a very interesting restaurant. I'm planning to have a dinner at "Au Crocodile" at Strasbourg few days before I arrive to Colmar, so your other two recommendation are more than welcome!
  10. Hello all, I need your opinion about the above topic. I have thought about Auberge de l'Ill but I'm hasitating as my experience with 3-stars restaurants is medicore (I've found them boring, with one exception - Troisgros), and since l'Auberge is a very old institute. I'm looking for an ultimate restaurant with creative food (it might be also traditional-creative, not fusion). Budget is unlimited. Thanks, Yossi
  11. I got one of the last opportunities to eat at "La Cote d'Or" three weeks ago. It was snowing in Saulieu, and the world - from a middle-eastern point-of-view - couldn't seem more optimistic and beautiful. I will remember his kindness, his great smile, and his arms spread like an "Oiseau". I thought I would not mark this dinner in my notes, but it seems that I willl...
  12. Hi all, first of all - this is my first post here at egulett - although I'm watching you guys for a while. You got a great discussion forum with much interesting information. As for Mr. Briffard - I've managed to eat at his former restaurant - Le Regence in the Plaza Athenee (yes, Le) "par hasard". The only reason I went there is that I heard rumors saying that this restaurant is going to get its second "macaron" in the Michelin 2000 guide. During lunch, the "maitre d'hotel" asked me whether I heard these rumors, and was very surprised when I said that I heard them two weeks ago (actually, I didn't hear them, I only read them in the web - at the time it wasn't that popular in France.) He was so stunned - that from this point he gave us a special treatment. I must say that the lunch we ate there was one of the best my wife and me ever had, even when comparing to dinners in other "starred" restaurants. I compare him to Eric Frechon from Bristol, who is - from my point of view - one of the most elegant/creative chefs I know. When we returned to Paris few months later - the resraurant was closed due to the replacement of Briffard by Ducasse. Ever since I'm trying to track him, with no much success. There were rumors that he moved to Drouant - but this deal never realized. Now, I hope he'll last there at least unril the end of January - so that we'll have the opprtunity to eat again from his marvelous cuisine. Besides - there is a question: did anybody ever sleeped at the Beaugraviere at Mondragon? We intend to eat, drink and stay there for two nights next January, and would like to know whether the rooms are comfortable enough.
