  1. Hello @Donna322. We're a pretty friendly group here. Welcome!
  2. Shoot. If I hadn't been so darned impatient I would have put one of those buttermilk bottles to good use. Next time! Thanks @Shelby and @blue_dolphin.
  3. I ended up throwing it out, @rotuts. One bottle had expiry Sept 2023, other October 2023. One bottle had a slightly blue twinge at the bottle opening. Both smelled good and were quite viscous. Next time I will listen to @ElsieD and freeze it. (Opinion revised below)
  4. Thought I had notes about this, but I can't find any. I recall someone stating that buttermilk never actually (really) expired, thus it could be used for cooking months after the expiry date. In my case I want to marinate some chicken in it. Is this an okay plan?
  5. Another query, Supposing you have Jaime Oliver's ONE and have selected a few recipes which really interest you. And the same with Mathew Carver and Patrick McGuigan's THE CHEESE LIFE. And some other cookbooks. In Eat Your Books, can you mark those individual recipes in some fashion? (E.g. in my personal database, I have a tag: _OfInterest). Favourite, perhaps? Later can one query the recipe data selecting for ONLY Favourite recipes to be included?
  6. The Instant Pot CAN cook beans without pressure (just like a stovetop). Keep in mind that the IP slow cooker choices of temp are high, medium, low and these translate to a traditional slow cooker temp of high, low, and warm.
  7. Hello @vyas. Lots of interesting folk and fascinating conversation to be found here. Welcome to eGullet.
  8. My computer says I bought this cookbook in Dec 2022. I shall have to go hunting! 😄
  9. Thanks, @blue_dolphin. I have Dinner in One on hold at the library, so I can let you know soon. I have a couple Melissa Clark cookbooks which I quite like. Yes, @Smithy, that's what I meant. I like Janet's cookbooks too!
  10. Looking for cookbooks or recipes which feature the main meal cooked in one pot. I'm interested in what kind of things can go in the same pot. Someone (might have been @JAZ) had a meatball, sauce and pasta combination for the Instant Pot. How do people resolve how much water to add to one pot dish of lentils? So far, I have these two: One pan, One Meal by Elena Silcock with (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) Whole in One (Pot) by Ellie Krieger with (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) It's noticable that some One Pan, One Meal recipe authors call for "1 cup rice, cooked" and others call for "1 cup cooked rice, frozen" which seem pretty equivalent to me.
  11. Hi @Shel_B, nice to see you back here. @blue_dolphin has a chart of appropriate cooking times for Rancho Gordo beans in the Instant Pot. From her notes, chickpea (garbanzo) needs 10-14 minutes soaked or 32-35 unsoaked. I eat a lot of Rancho Gordo beans of all varieties and, because I want slightly chewy beans (underdone), I have taken to always soaking the beans for 6 hours (or overnight) and not pressure cooking them. I use the slow cook option, medium heat, for a few hours. If we're approaching dinner hour and the beans aren't done yet, I raise the slow cooker temp to high heat for a while.

    White Potatoes

Sorry I missed this. Do you have a recipe for this bread?

    White Potatoes

@rotuts, you said: "some brands of infant flake potatoes re much more versatile than they use to be "Jacques Pepin uses them for thickening . soups etc "and now I do myself." ----- What is a good brand of instant flake potatoes to use for thickening?
  14. Last time I looked, Eat Your Books couldn't do what I was looking to do (I checked with Support). So this time, I'm asking the experts! 😃
  15. @FrogPrincesse and @blue_dolphin, can you search for "stale bread" and "smoked chicken", i.e. multiple search strings?
  16. I'm thinking more about Eat Your Books, so can I ask some questions? Supposing you had some day or three old bread, how would you go about looking for recipes which use stale or dry bread?
  17. Hello @tooncekat. Lots of fascinating folk here. As some have quite divergent opinions, discussions can get quite lively. A word of caution, eGers are world famous enablers, so hang onto your wallet! Welcome.
  18. Spicy hot is clear to me.
  19. Thanks for the postings @BonVivant. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
  20. Hello @Neely. I'm looking forward to learning more about you. Welcome.
  21. Hello @PetarG. Most interesting post. Perhaps @Duvel or @AlaMoi or @Kerry Beal can help? Looking forward to following your quest! Welcome.
  22. Hello @Tanz, welcome to eGullet. Hope you like this place! Sorry, I have no answers for this question though.
  23. @aliénor, it's funny in retrospect but I bet it was upsetting at the time. 🙁
