  1. Does no one else lightly roast them? Low oven, little bit of oil, good bit of time.
  2. Has anyone mentioned fried egg spaghetti yet? I think I got it from Bittman; it's unbelievable. If you haven't tried it, I advise you do... Cook some spaghetti and when it's coming close to al dente, lightly heat a few tbsp of your best olive oil and a crushed clove of garlic in a frying pan. turn off the heat, discard the garlic and crack a couple of fresh eggs into the pan. Watch them slowly solidify, then throw the drained spaghetti into the pain and break up the eggs into the pasta. Cover with a good deal of pepper and as much parmesan as you can fit on your plate. So easy, so good.
  3. I am fascinated by any cuisine that can make okra taste good. Any recipes you could drop on me would be much appreciated! Unfortunately, yesterdays meal was much the same. Roast chicken, roast potatoes and parsnips, sprouts and cabbage sauteed in butter and a thick cider gravy. Not that I'm complaining - it was unreal. Brunch was a revelation though...slow roasted gammon in marmalade with scrambled eggs. I miss Sunday already...
  4. I don't know about everyone else, but for me, Sunday is the best day of the week for cooking. I see Sunday's as 14 hours of potential, unabashed cookery. As an Englishman, it's engrained in my very nature to make a big thing out of Sunday lunch, but it's been 27 years of much of the same. As delicious as masses of roast meats, crisp potato, doughy yorkshire puddings and intense meat gravies are...I'm starting to quest for something a little different. So what are Sunday dinners like in your household/country/state/borough? Give me something fresh to play around with...
  5. Although it isn't traditional for a man from the UK, the thing that really makes me feel better is congee, with something incredibly spicy on top. I mean painfully spicy.
  6. I'm already way ahead of you Doodad, but i don't want to fire up the coals every time i want to eat. And Kim...aleady talking about fall? How we suffer... I suppose i'm just after something a little different from the summer staples that end up as a chore rather than a pleasure.
  7. My god it's getting hot, and with heat comes my inability to consume anything bar ice ice cubes, fruit and pimms. Does anyone have any favourites that can keep me inspired in the kitchen this summer? Also, hiya. First post.
